Now that the season's officially over, my 4-yr-old and I are anticipating next year. I have no idea how to go about this, so can anyone suggest how we'd organize an AK ski trip?

Ski all day, gourmet dinner, talk audio half the night, ski all day... the only thing better would be to add women! Yeah, yeah, I know, even my ultra-tolerant wife wouldn't put up with that schedule!

That doesn't mean we can't do it! Anyone know how to start it off?

I've probably just broken some AK rule again. Sorry.

Should I have posted this in Events & Happenings? If so, dear moderator, just delete it and I'll try again over there.

No offense or controversy intended. :worried:

I've figured out how to completely avoid controversy on AK!! You just post on a topic that no one has any interest in at all, and there's never an issue. There's not much discussion either.

Hmmm... perhaps I should have posted about a ski trip in which everyone brings their favorite CABLES!!! :naughty:

Missed the first post!

I used to live in Fresno, and skiied Heavenly, Kirkwood, and many of the Tahoe area runs on a regular basis. My best year was 18 days. Now I live near Chicago, and I've gone skiing twice in the last 17 years.

A friend invited me to his place at Steamboat in January. Had a blast! Last time on the boards was winter of '88-'89, and I was more than a little nervous about how I was going to do. I was amazed at how quickly it came back! The other guest was ex pro patrol and I was a little intimidated in the morning, but by the first afternoon we were just having a ball.

I'm going back to Steamboat again this winter. I'm not sure I can swing two trips in the same year with the wife and a new job.

As far as getting this going, first thing is to see how much interest there is. Then rough out some dates and cost of accomodations. The one other tweak with skiing specifically would be to see how many skiers there are in each skill level. It would be nice to have at least two or three guys who could ski together during the day. If there was only one expert/advanced, or only one beginner, he would get a little lonely by 4:00 pm.

Lets see if there's any interest.

Well, Clay, the response is overwhelming! A lot of the problem could be that June is a tough time to think about skiing.

Maybe I should switch it to a water ski trip for this summer? :scratch2:

I loved skiing until I took out my ACL and MCL at Kirkwood about 2 1/2 years ago. It took about a year before I could do anything without a brace on. When the weather changes it still bothers me. I just can't look at skiing the same way anymore.

I'd love to!! Not sure if I can afford it...

I suck skiing (bad knee), but always had fun regardless.

Can't say I ever skiied Nevada. Utah, Colorado, and Idaho, but not NV.

Bah, we're never that anal :)

I just suck at skiing. Although, it might be fun for the members that attend to watch me repeatedly flip ass over teakettle

In my dictionary, there is no mention of frostbite associated with the word "Skiing."

Ya I think I'd pay to see that :lmao:

I've never skiied real mountains, just on the hills of the midwest. Would love to try it again, but alas I can't since I blew out my L4 - L5 disc's in my lower back some years ago :sigh:

Stinks to get old and cautious :scratch2:

Not having been on skis since 17 I could attend and we could sell tickets so folks could watch me kill myself.

Wow Clay! So far, it's you and me and Kamakiri committing hari-kiri, for which we can sell tickets.

Seriously, folks, I live at Lake Tahoe, which is surrounded by ski areas. If a group wanted to come here, I can arrange discount tickets, and anything from cheap lodging to a lakefront condo. Depending on size of the group, I can manage some transportation. For my son's 4th B-day party, we arranged a small squad of ski instructors for the 22 little monsters, and it turned out great. A gaggle of AK members couldn't be harder than 22 4-yr-olds, could they? :naughty:

On the other hand, Tahoe skiing is on Sierra Cement at family places like Squaw Valley and Heavenly, which is the opposite of dream-like powder at glamorous Vail and Deer Valley.

I think we need to get an idea of where people would most like to meet, and like Clay said, what levels of skiing they enjoy.

I'll start. I'm 50 and chubby, so I hit the hill at 10:00, ski blues and an occasional easy black till noon, spend the next 1.5 hrs in the real restaurant with tablecloths (not 15 mins in the cafeteria), then ski even easier runs for another 2 hours, then declare myself exhausted and head for a massage.

Anyone interested in a trip, let us know where you'd like to go and what your skiing style is like. Even if you don't ski, but like the mountains, I can be talked into snowmobiling with almost no effort.

If I can get out of NV before the next snow falls, I'll claim a major victory, and wish you all the best of times skiing or whatever.

You're in Vegas, right? I keep thinking I'll move there when I'm too old to play in the snow with my kids. I take it you don't like it? Mind saying why?
