Artist: Muddy Waters
Title: Folk Singer
Year: 1999
Record Label: Chess
Genre: Blues
This specs are for the redbook CD. The original album was recorded in 1963 and released in 1964. The 200g version was released in 2000. The gold CD in 1997. The SACD version in 2002. So you can see this one has held the test of time.
This album is Muddy, his guitar and a mic. An acoustic session that abounds with true Delta blues. On my CLS's, you are there, the imaging is unreal. If you like, blues you most likely already have this album. If not, go get it.

I have the Chess reissue LP and the Quiex II but I am looking to add the original Chess LP to my collection. The Mofi LP is a little boosted on highs for me but still excellent sounding.
This LP is a MUST for any music lover !

I love this album and have it on SACD which I used to think was fantastic sounding, that is, until I heard it on good vinyl!
One of my all time favorites.

It's been on my want list but I get confused on which vinyl version to purchase and that lead to anlysis paralysis.

Unless of course you find a sweet copy of the mega buck original Chess.

That's the version I heard - listened to the SACD version on a Sony SCD-1, the Quiex II version on an Oracle, same system, same time. As good as the SACD was, the LP just sounded more natural and open.

I too, bought this after reading about it here.
Astounding.
I didn't know recordings made forty-odd years ago could sound so good.

Got it about 1 month ago. (cd) Love the album. Go listen to The Beatles, Revolver. Im becomming a believer in older recordings. They just sound more "there".

It's a great album, but a bit scatter shot, what with recordings from 47-64 (gee, Muddy doesn't look a bit high on the cover, does he?). If you like it I recommend you seek out "Rollin' Stone: The Golden Anniversary Collection." This is CD only, but includes most of the material recorded by Muddy for Chess between 1947-52 on 2 CDs. Fifty tracks (only a few of which are alternate takes, but even these are great) of among the greatest blues ever recorded. The second CD has Little Walter (without doubt "the" greatest harmonica player of all time, at his best) on all but a few cuts. Virtually every track is astonishing. Recommended music for any serious music lover, absolutely essential for anyone who loves the blues.
