Artist: Eva Cassidy
Title: Songbird
Year of Release: 1992
Record Label: S&P
Genre: Blues

I think I need to make up some genres- many artists just don't fit into a nice, neat category :)

This is a review of an S&P reissue of a 1992 Blix Street Records album.

Another great remastering, this time by Steve Hoffman. 'Songbird' contains some great tracks from the few records Eva recorded prior to her early death. Accurate, quiet, great pressing. The music hits me in the right spots, Eva's voice just talks to me. A album well worth buying :thmbsp:

I have the original Blix Street release of this and don't know how it compares to Hoffman's remaster but this is fantastic music, well recorded and a great pressing.

One of my favorites and a reference LP I always test drive when messing with my system.

This is a great, great album, surpassed only by her Live At Blues Alley.

I've got Songbird.
Words cannot do this woman's singing justice.
Play the record,or some way expose your friends to this woman's talent(RIP).
I'm currently watching a DVD 'Eva Cassidy sings'.
Poor quality video recording, but the thrill of watching this Instrument of GOD operate is nonetheless undiminished.

I picked up this exact same CD at SA a few months ago without even knowing who she was. The chance for $0.50 to give it a try, so no big loss if I don't like it. Well, I loved it. The wife loved it. In fact, I have a hard time getting the CD back as she keeps it in her car CD deck all the time ....

Listening to this album (and some of the Eva Cassidy videos on YT) tends to make me cry. Partly because of her tragic life story, but mostly because her versions of songs like "Over the Rainbow" are so achingly beautiful.

Worth revisiting a two-year-old thread for! :-)

Sting is legendary for his distaste of artists covering his songs. Eva Cassidy's version of his "Field of Gold" received his full endorsement. I've heard it, and I like her rendition better than the original.

Never heard of her.

Most people had not heard of her, until after she passed away. You may enjoy these videos.

Just got a Stacey Kent CD from the library, looked her up on Amazon; a poster recommended giving Eva Cassidy a listen instead. I did, and WOW, blown away! Ordering the CD right now.
