Materials needed:
4 heavy duty cardboard boxes (2 for each amp/pre-amp) and 1 box for the tubes. Bubble wrap (preferably large bubble type), styrofoam sheet, or foam sheet.
Double box the amp and pre-amp separately and bubble wrap and box the tubes separately in an oversized box.
Wrap amp/pre-amp in several layers of bubble wrap. There should be at least a couple of inches of bubble wrap cushioning all sides. Avoid putting pressure on the face plate or delicate switches. Secure the bubble wrap with packing tape and place in the inner box. Fill any space in the inner box with extra bubble wrap, keeping the amp/pre-amp centered within the box for best protection.
The inner box should have an inch or two of clearance on all 6 sides between it and the outer box. That space should be completely filled (top, bottom and all sides) with solid styrofoam or foam sheet.
Put bottom layer of foam sheet in outer box, and then place inner box on top. Place foam sheet on the 4 sides. place top piece of foam sheet and tape box securely.
Don't use any type of foam peanuts.
