View Full Version : I'm heated...
Damn it's freaking hot out today, you could cut the humidity with a knife.
Don't know where the heat index is today, but sheez, got a fricking headache going outside from the A/C :sigh:
Spent a few minutes outside and even with a breeze, I'm just soaked  One thing about the Midwest, the humidity makes the heat a b*tch ! I like it hot, but feels like I'm breathing a gallon of water with every breath :scratch2:
Sounds like it's going to be a good night to sit listen to some tunes and have a few
RichPA 06-24-2005, 02:57 PM I know how you feel, Army, having worked outdoors during many Iowa summers in my youth. Now I live where most years we don't hit 90 (though it does get humid).
Have a cold one! :D
steve gibson 06-24-2005, 03:03 PM I must be crazy, but I love this weather! Sure beats the hell out of freezing your ass off! It also makes for great girl watchin'
tentoze 06-24-2005, 03:07 PM The inside of my car was 132 degrees yesterday afternoon when I left work.
Micropassatman 06-24-2005, 03:15 PM It was 100 degrees here on Tuesday. At least it was a dry heat.
Sure beats the hell out of freezing your ass off! It also makes for great girl watchin'
Can't fault you for that Steve :D
I love summer, but I'd much rather have a cool evening, where I can work outside, without melting
steve gibson 06-24-2005, 03:29 PM The grass is burning up in Dodge. How 'bout in Cedar Rapids?
OvenMaster 06-24-2005, 03:35 PM Spent a few minutes outside and even with a breeze, I'm just soaked  One thing about the Midwest, the humidity makes the heat a b*tch ! I like it hot, but feels like I'm breathing a gallon of water with every breath :scratch2:
Careful, Army. :worried: One time it was like that here, hellishly hot and dripping with humidity, and I stupidly went to push the lawnmower. Within 5 minutes, I felt like I was breathing that gallon of water and walking right into a hot wet sponge. When my chest started to feel funny, I said to myself, "Get in the house, dumbass!" Even in decent health, at 44 then, I realized I was at risk for heatstroke... or worse. The grass will still be there later. NOTHING is worth risking your health over, especially grass. Rich is right. Have those cold ones!
Tom
Dave918 06-24-2005, 03:44 PM Mid-nineties with 40% humidity today in Southeast Okla. Same story every day except that the temp keeps creeping up a degree or two, no rain in the foreseeable future. Fairly typical June so far.
-dave
LBPete 06-24-2005, 03:48 PM 84° bright sunshine and a cool breeze here at a few minutes before 2.
- Pete
The grass is burning up in Dodge. How 'bout in Cedar Rapids?
Yeah were dry as a popcorn fart here too Steve!
Good advise Tom, I for one am going to take it easy, the lawn and anything that requires more effort than tipping one can wait. This is definitely heatstroke weather :sigh:
Jstas 06-24-2005, 03:58 PM 84 degrees, feels like 85 so the heat index is low.
UV Index: 2 Low
Wind: From WSW at 11 mph
Humidity: 49%
Pressure: 30.13 in.
Dew Point: 63°F
Visibility: 9.0 miles
This is a little unusual for late June around here. By now we are swamped with 95% humidity and higher with temperatures creeping into the low 90's and heat indexes making it feel like triple digits. The nighttime lows get down to about 75 if we are lucky.
Just wait til August. Everyone from Maine to Florida will be bitching about the constant and excessive humidity in the 98 degree weather and the drone of the freaking cicadas. That and the total lack of rain we get in August.
EchoWars 06-24-2005, 05:23 PM Out on the motorcycle to get some parts, and feels like a blow dryer in the face...
Colorado Springs had the nicest summer weather of anyplace I've been in the country. One of the things I miss about it. Boise, OTOH, is hot hot hot. On the edge of the desert, and feels like it (100°+ nearly every day from late June to early September, and not a cloud for 200mi). I'd still move back in a heartbeat.
BTW Army, the avitar looks better than I thought. Have to see if anyone can venture a guess where it came from (Eric ought to be able to).
Rockmonton 06-24-2005, 05:27 PM been pretty warm up here, all the girls are naked on their roofs suntanning when i'm up on the dirt hills biking, mang is nice out.,
Micropassatman 06-24-2005, 05:30 PM EchoW,
You would move back to Colorado, or Boise? I moved here from Sacramento, where there are only two distinct seasons. Boise has four, and although it is hot, it is regularly ten degrees cooler than Sacto. Everything is relative. I can take a dry 100, but a dry 110? No thanks.
skippy_ps 06-24-2005, 05:46 PM 105 here, about 3:30 pm pst.

EchoWars 06-24-2005, 06:00 PM CoSpgs was a haven for gang-bangers and servicemen (Ft. Carson & Air Force Academy right there). Not a single chick in the damn town. I would have stayed there if I could (I lived downtown within walking distance to the bars and restaurants), but now that I'm gone I consider it a 'nice place to visit'. ;) Boise is where I want to live...again. :sigh:
Official temp here yesterday (6-23-05) was 101. The thermometer on my back deck (in the shade) showed 103. Humidity hovering between 50 to 60%. All I know is that it's freakishly hot and my central air unit is doing all it can do to cool my 57 year old house and my 49 year old bones! :D
rew15951 06-24-2005, 06:41 PM The avitar ? Traffic?
RussinOhio 06-24-2005, 06:48 PM Well, my big AC is dead!! I put the heavy monster on the back porch for now. Gotta get a new one real soon. I'm thinking 13-14,000 BTU for the living room. I just went out to HH Gregg and got a nice 6000 BTU Whirlpool AC for my daughters bedroom. At least she'll be cool tonight!!!
So damn hot in my living room I coulda sworn I saw the devil sittin' in the corner!
Yes, I realize putting a broken AC on the back porch might...."make me a red-neck"
All-in all....I prefer this kinda misery over FREEZING cold misery.
Russ
EchoWars 06-24-2005, 06:53 PM The avitar ? Traffic?OK...now the album... ;)
Fisherdude 06-24-2005, 07:16 PM My in-laws moved to Lewiston, ID, two years ago. I've visited several times...really nice town, except for the smell from the paper mill! :thumbsdn:
97 in the Chicago suburbs today, supposed to be 90-95 for the next seven days. This has been the fourth driest summer in 130 years, and no rain in sight. Luckily I've got auto sprinklers, otherwise my lawn would be dead, dead, dead. I hate dragging frikin' hoses around.
rew15951 06-24-2005, 07:34 PM shoot out at the fantasy factory,
EchoWars 06-24-2005, 08:17 PM shoot out at the fantasy factory,
Right on.... :D
tentoze 06-24-2005, 08:18 PM I had nuttin' on it..........
JDaniel 06-24-2005, 09:07 PM Well, we are about to enter the 5th level of Dante's Inferno here in Alabama. From now till mid-August, it stays above 90 degrees with humidity at near 100%. Who needs a friggin' sauna. I just have to walk outside. And to cool things off, we just have tornados in the evenings.
Luckily I park in a garage at home and work, so none of that 132 degree stuff toze experiences in the desert.
JD
Sandy G 06-24-2005, 09:18 PM About the same as what JD has...You take a shower in the AM & are lucky if you don't feel greasy, nasty, awful, & horrible by noon...-Sandy G.

BTW Army, the avitar looks better than I thought. QUOTE]
Yeah I'm digging the new look, Buddy :thmbsp:
Thanks!
Actually tonight after a few brews, it cooled off way more than was expected.
T-storm was about a 40% chance, and before it got dark looked like a real possibilty.
Still very muggy, but I took the Z-50 out and at top speed was it excellent
Ol' Ken 06-25-2005, 11:39 AM With the humidity index factored in it is just a little over 107 F up here in Ottawa - gonna be that way all next week accordings to the weather channel - still better than 35 below and snow.
Sandy G 06-25-2005, 11:54 AM Damnation! I didn't realise it got that effin' hot up in the Land of Canucks. I thought a hot day up there was like, 80 or so-once every 10 years.-Sandy G.
hpsenicka 06-25-2005, 12:04 PM Click here for current weather in my neck of the woods...

I believe this is based on instrument readings at Pearson International Airport at Toronto... all temps in Celius. For reference, 35C = approx 95F, 30C = 86F
For interest, look at the long-range forecast.... this is not an anomaly, our summers in Ontario are hot and muggy... likely very similar to what you would experience in many parts of the US.
Ol' Ken 06-25-2005, 12:05 PM Damnation! I didn't realise it got that effin' hot up in the Land of Canucks. I thought a hot day up there was like, 80 or so-once every 10 years.-Sandy G.
Its still June- maybe in July or August it will warm up. It gets hot and humid here. Three rivers and a couple of lakes in the area makes things nice and sticky. I have seen it about 115 on occaison. Got another smog alert to make things even more pleasant. I am buying armpit shellac (deoderant) by the quart. Thank the good lord that the house I bought a fews back has A/C. As an added bonus I quit smoking a few years back - now I can smell things I never wanted to smell before- Yuck.
Ol' Ken 06-25-2005, 12:31 PM Woo - Hoo the temp with the humidex just went up to 109.4 F and its only 1:30 PM
cabinover 06-26-2005, 05:26 AM Central air, best investment I have ever made. Well, besides the stereo equipment that is. May only be able to maintain 75F when it's 90+ outside, but it's a dry 75F and I'll take it. :thmbsp:
Rontech1 06-26-2005, 10:06 AM Woo - Hoo the temp with the humidex just went up to 109.4 F and its only 1:30 PM
YIKES!!!!
I thought it was cooler up there.
Central Ill, 10 am 89, heat index 94 already. But we do have a breeze. 1 mph from the SE :D
http://www.weather.com/weather/local/62702?lswe=62702&lwsa=WeatherLocalUndeclared
We put new energy efficient windows and siding on the house last year and they help a lot. Central air still runs a lot though. We are fortunate that the city owns it's own power plant, so we have some of the lowest rates in the state. Or so I am told :scratch2:
opt80 06-26-2005, 10:47 AM 38C here yesterday,it didn't cool off til 3AM
Ol' Ken 06-26-2005, 02:37 PM Much cooler today only 98 F with the humidex- anybody seen my parka?
Andyman 06-26-2005, 03:26 PM Yep, it's a frigid 89 F here.
I'm grabbing a Coors Light and jumping in the pool! Just hooked up the patio tunes yesterday, so we're all set here!
wizard_len 06-26-2005, 07:34 PM It has been in the mid to high 90s here in Louisiana all week with humidity generally in the 80~90% range. There has also been very little breeze, so it's real close and sticky. We call it atmosphere you can wear.
Ol' Ken 06-27-2005, 03:20 PM Its 104F today with the humidex. The humidity is only 49 % today - thank the Lord for that.
Gerrit 06-29-2005, 05:32 AM 12 - 22 C here today, but there is a cold front moving in towards the w/e.
can get as low as 5 - 23 C expected by friday.. BRRRR
Workingslug 06-29-2005, 07:50 AM Hot, you want hot.
The A/C for our office is fried burnt toast at the moment.
Until they get the new one installed, yes they are working on it, we are without any A/C.
Enjoy the A/C, I know I will when they get it back up and running.
One never knows what they have until it is taken away and they have to do without it.
The Weather Channel is predicting 100+F for the next few days. I worked outside yesterday afternoon and the thermometer on my deck (facing away from the sun) said it was 102! :yikes: What's August going to be like? :scratch2:
Reel 2 Reel 06-29-2005, 10:44 AM We been skirting the 90F mark the last week or so...and I just love it!...
I'm not looking forward to the 8 months of winter we have here!....so yup!!...... I'll take the hot anyday... :thmbsp:
The youngsters I work with...(in their twenties)...are crying "It's Too Hot" all day long!.... its a shame ..these kids these days...cant handle a little heat beacuse they were brought up with A/C units ..and mommie doin' everything for them all the time...but we'll save that for another thread!....
Dave918 06-29-2005, 11:01 AM Much cooler here today and the revised forecast looks much better. Not bad at all.
-dave
Chad Hauris 06-29-2005, 12:11 PM Highs here in West Texas are from 99-103 for the next 5 days, which is quite normal. We did not have air conditioning at home when I was a kid...I can remember it being quite a luxury to go shopping in a store which had air conditioning, or turning up the A/C in a motel room when on vacation all the way and making it real cold because it was a real novelty.
