In my life, the best things ALWAYS happen at EXACTLY the worst times!

Sort of like when I bought the ol' 68 Trotwood camper in the middle of January.

Well, see my latest eBay purchase:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=4556811669&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT

Now the wife and I were looking at boats, cheap fixer uppers as I always buy and repair (like my vehicles, the camper, etc etc......) and we had talked today on the way to a family get together and said that a boat would be next year, we don't have the cash or the space to deal with it this year.

Then we see this beauty. Yeah, it needs work, but WHOA! :D

Do I have the money for it? No, but that never stops me :D Do I have the space? No, but that never stops me :D

Brought her home today with the van (which blew a hole in the upper rad hose on the way there in Rochester, repaired quickly with some electrical tape), and now I've got a big ass boat with a huge load of parts! Now to figure what they all do.....hm. With any luck mhardy will be able to grab the engine for me and hang on to it a bit (that's in Athol MA).

Going to seal her up in a couple weeks and work on her as next spring's project. I have all winter to go over the outdrive, motor, etc, etc. So.....anyone else here a boater? :)

Used boats that need work - *shudder* Been there, done that. Ask me about the boat we 'affectionately' dubbed "The Polish Nightmare" sometime.

Boater here. That looks like one helluva deal you got there. I'm bettin' you could flip that trailer for twice what you paid for the package, if you were so inclined. Not that I would, I'm just sayin' you could. The boat looks to be in pretty good shape, save for the lack of a cockpit. What kinda powerplant was/will be in her? One bit of advice; I, personally, wouldn't tow that beast with the likes of a Ford Ranger for all the beer in Golden, Colorado. That seller must be a crazy man (not really what I was thinking, I'm being nice). Anyway, congrats on a fine acquisition. I know you'll enjoy it. - Mark

Oh, by the way. What are you planning to do for tunes? You ARE going to put a stereo in there, right? - Mark

Small block 350 for power with an Alpha One outdrive.

Already had 3 buy offers based on the closed auction, whoda thunk!

Yeah, I actually commented about him pulling it with the Ranger when my wife and I were on the way back. My Chevy full-size conversion van pulled it with no problem, but STOPPING was an adventure because the trailer doesn't have brakes!

Oh, and as far as tunes? It's got a car stereo setup aboard :)

I have to get some shots of the inside, I thought that it looks better than the pics show. The paint, though, looks a bit more worn.

Tim, you REALLY need to get brakes on that trailer, or a trailer that has some. That is a disaster waiting to happen.-Sandy G.

What Sandy said. You don't want to experience what can happen on a downgrade, when a heavy trailer starts pushing its tow vehicle. Trust me on this.

I'm a German, & you know how we are about over-engineering everything,so I'd STRONGLY urge going w/a 3/4 or ton pickup to pull said Yacht around. Pulling a boat & trailer around w/an Astro-you're prolly pretty close to being "over gross" for it.An Astro is basically an S-10 pick-up.-Sandy G.

Kam's got a full size Chevy conversion van... conversion vans
are usually built on a 3/4 ton chassis... still, I would recommend
trailer brakes as well! :thmbsp:

Yep, she's a G20, 3/4 ton. But yep, it sure was hairy braking on downgrades with a ton and a half of Chris Craft bearing down on those little brake pads. I agree, that's a must. That, and a stabilizer bar. Damn thing would fishtail all over the place above 60 MPH.

Tim:

I am very impressed! You are not one to shy away from major projects are you? I remember a camper and a bicycle just in the last few months. This one looks like it will be a winner as well.

Look forward to seeing the finished product next spring.
