View Full Version : I know what me Heresy's have been wanting
Rontech1 07-02-2005, 11:17 AM WOOOOHOOOO!
I know what my Klipsch Heresy 1's have been screaming for now. I just picked up an MC 2105 and hooked it up. It makes it sound like I just got new speakers also!!
My first time with McIntosh and this looks like a keeper. Sounds awesome. :thmbsp: Never had a chance to listen to a McIntosh before. I am converted.
Seems like a C26 or C28 pre in my future now. Advice appreciated.
There is a chip in the glass but everything thing else looks and sounds great :thmbsp: It even came from the original owner with the original owners manual, in a hurry sheet, amp test clinic flyer, and service info manual. Chrome not pitted and no obvious faults internal.
Still should send it to Terry DeWick to have him check/test it out. I talked to him on the phone before I got it and he gave some pointers on what to look out for. Seem's like a very nice guy.
Price was right on the unit also!
All in all I am one happy camper :D

Cleve 07-02-2005, 11:47 AM Congrats. Makes quite a difference, doesn't it? I wasn't sure I was happy with my CF-4s. They seemed kinda bright and harsh - dunno if it was psychosomatic or not but I used to get "listening fatigue" Then when I hooked up McIntosh in March 2004 the difference was remarkable - not subtle at all in my opinion.
opt80 07-02-2005, 12:54 PM Congrats Ron,enjoy it for years to come

I have my Heresy's hooked up to a MC-250 & MX-113, its the only system I don't keep rotating speakers through, and I have alot of speakers.
CarlV 07-02-2005, 08:23 PM Congrats Rontech!
McIntosh gear do a great job of taming the Klipsch speakers that need it.

Rontech1 07-03-2005, 08:36 PM Thanks guys. First chance to get back to this thread, been too busy discovering all my music over again. I am convinced that this is the amp to keep. I would imagine that a McIntosh pre amp would make a remarkable difference also :scratch2:
Any advice?
Ron
snapshotjc 07-04-2005, 07:10 AM Ron, welcome to McWorld; I, like Cleve, have a pair of Epic CF-4's, and I can say that Carl is dead on when he says that McIntosh calms the wild Klipsch beast! I have the very same amp, and I got very good results with a C-26 preamp; although I have just resently aquired a MX-110 tube pre & a MC-225 tube amp, I was more than happy with the 2105 & C-26 combo; now I'm just a little delirious:
delirious |diˈli(ə)rēəs| adjective in an acutely disturbed state of mind resulting from illness or intoxication and characterized by restlessness, illusions, and incoherence of thought and speech. • in a state of wild excitement or ecstasy
Brian 07-04-2005, 07:48 PM I have a set of Heresys, a 250 and 2105. The 250 is more than enough for the Heresys. The 2105 adds 3 db but in my environment never used it. Klipsch board members do like Mc amps as a group. The 26 may have too high a noise level for the Klipsch even when within spec. Try a 28, 29 or 27. If phono is important try the 28, it is the better IMHO. If not important, go for a 27 if on a budget or the 29.

Thanks for the info guys :thmbsp: After searching for all the info I could find ,I think the 28 would be the one I am going to look for. Been watching ebay but sure don't trust ebay much anymore. No bad personal experiences, just horror stories from other members whose judgment I trust.
I have also checked out McIntosh audio for sale websight link from Mr. DeWicks sight. That would most likely be the place to go, or an AK member for sure.
I have found on the 2105 what I believe to be some minor problems. Meter sw sometimes drops out the right meter when switching to -10 but comes right back when just touching the switch a little. A couple of bulbs burnt out on the front. But no noisy switches/pots. I have already talked to Mr DeWick about shipping instructions and I will be sending it to him.
But the amp sounds wonderful to me. I was using a Denon POA 2400 for the power amp before Mc. It is still amazing to me how different amplifiers can sound so much different.
I have wanted a pair of LaScala's for quite a while now, but reading info on the net I have heard that LaScala's do not pair well with the mc 2105. Any input from you knowledgable people on this? The room this system is in is about 15 x 20 and the Heresys' fill the room with only 5 watts or less. The LaScalas may be too much for the room.
Again thanks for all the input.
The newest convert,
Ron
Brian 07-05-2005, 03:13 PM IF YOU ARE SHIPPING THE 2105 GET THE CORRECT SHIPPING CONTAINER FROM MCINTOSH AND PAACK EXACTLY AS INSTRUCTED. If you have the wood case, make sure amongst other things you remove it and replace the feet as part of the packing. I have seen more destroyed faceplates on 2105s due to poor and incorrect packing than any otehr single piece of equipment. With todays shippers, not sure I would not add a foam fill to the packing as added insurance. The 2105 on a set of LaScalas. You'd probably crack you windows before ever getting the meter needles to move. Never had mine on LaScalas but did have my 250 on a pair and no problem other than it was over the top power wise. Later Mc amps are quieter so with something as efficient as the LaScala you may become aware of the noise level of the amp on quiet passages. Can not say it would or would not happen. I did try a set of Lowthers with the 2105 and experienced this (no guys, I did not see if I could shoot the speaker cone across the room).
