I just heard the postal lady throw my album on the front porch. Let's go have a look. That was it
Country Joe McDonald/Paradise with an Ocean View.
Always an activist, on this album Joe sings about the religion, environment, drugs, and saving the whales. AS a matter of fact, the last song on side one, "Save the Whales", he incorporates whale sounds into the song.
I bought this album back in 76, and gave my first copy to JDaniel a few weeks back. Found this at Musicstack for a very good price, and picked it up.

Since this is the first NEW album I have bought in decades, I am surprised it has so much snap, and crackle sounds. What gives? I gave it a couple of good swipes with the Discwasher. I just ordered the Spin Clean, and it should be here soon. I am using a new Shure M97xE , and it is lined up properly.

I don't know if static could affect the SQ...do you have an anti-static mat you can try?

Could be just a lousy pressing. Is this a re-issue, or a NOS copy of the original Fantasy release? The original Fantasy one was not a particularly good-sounding record, IMO (but not due to cracks and pops). I have a Japanese re-master from the 80's that pretty much cured the sins of the original.

I think it's an original pressing. I'm gonna give a good bath, and try again.
Thanks

I dunno- I remember getting several Fantasy/Creedence albums new "back in the Day" & IIRC, they were very noisy for new vinyl, I thought.-Sandy G.

Yep, I have just about given up on finding a decent sounding Fantasy labelled album. They all sound like ass so far.

Well, after procrastinating way too long, I've finally hooked up the Music Hall TT I graciously rec'd a while back from Dave918 (thank you), and the first album I played was Country Joe McDonald - Paradise with an Ocean View that Mike Bama gave me a couple weeks ago (another thank you). This is an absolutely outstanding album. Reminds me a little of ABB, or maybe Randall Bramblett. My favorite tunes from the LP are (1)Holy Roller, (2) Oh, Jamaica, and (3)Lonely on the Road.

Thanks guys for the TT and the LP.

Maybe now I'll go play that Hotel album Mike forced me to buy. :thmbsp:

Nothing wrong with a little cliqued 80's poprock :D

I've always heard the name but never given a listen until now. Picked up a super condition MFSL Paradise with an Ocean View from the thrift.

GOOD GOD this lp sounds freaking GREAT! Solid bottom end and clean mids/highs. A great pressing imo.

Now that I've been introduced, are there other Joe lp's I should seek out?

This is so ironic. Earlier tonigt before I read this thread I gave CCR "Chronicle" a spin. The album is slick as glass but when I layed the needle down on my Marantz it sounded like a Jiffy Pop convention. I couldnt believe it. Still can't but I just got up and looked and it is a Fantasy pressing.

Fantasy must just truely be garbage. Now I love Country Joe And The Fish but I have long avoided some of the solo work like "Paradice". I am used to so many once great artist having fallen to the stench of Glitter and Disco I tend to avoid a lot of recordings from the mid and late 70's.

I do have a great live album called Incredibly Live Country Joe. Its from 1972 so to me it was a safe buy. I was right. I see "Paradice" all the time. Maybe I'll give it a shot sometime since I have seen these rave reviews. As long it is the true, radical, comical, counterculture Country Joe and not some flashier, trendier version doing Pop songs....
