I am new to this. I hope I got the correct forum.
Back then [forgot when], I took a recommendation and purchased a Tandberg TP 41 Portable Radio. I used it lots, and loved it.
Somewhere in there it stopped. In 1987, I took it to a radioman who said it needed a Germanium [that's it, yes?] transistor and he could not get one. I emptied the radio of batteries and put it in an empty file drawer.
Time passes, and one day in 2005, I look up Germanium on Google, and it shows many hits.
In my medium-sized town I cannot find anyone - I mean anyone - who works on old radios, but finally I did find a person.
He said the problem had to do with the selection buttons on the top, that they were stuck. He applied one type of solvent after another, and told me he finally found one that worked and it will continue working for about five years. He said something about the radio not working if the selection buttons were stuck.
Now - after a $38 bill - a new transformer and emergency D batteries, I am good to go.
Aha! I see people paying Big Bucks for this radio! How rare/valuable is it?
