http://seattle.craigslist.org/ele/86113200.html
Yamaha Receiver RX350 50 watts, Kenwood CD player DP49, Speakers DCM Timeframe TF 700 - $200 for it all, hell i'd pay $200 for the Timeframes alone.
http://seattle.craigslist.org/ele/86099910.html
Vintage Carver AVR100 Reciever - $150, i'd love to have it just for the looks, she's a beauty.
http://seattle.craigslist.org/ele/85984606.html
Vintage Pioneer SX-D7000 Receiver - $175, dont know squat about this one, but its another looker.
http://seattle.craigslist.org/ele/85983421.html
Altec Lansing Seville speakers - $750, other than some cosmetic issues with one grill, these are in excellent condition. i've heard what Valencias will do, i'd love to have these.
http://seattle.craigslist.org/ele/85847871.html
KEF 105 Series II Speakers - $550, can you say speaker envy? i've drooled over a pair of these for some time now.

http://seattle.craigslist.org/ele/85061523.html

http://seattle.craigslist.org/ele/84961788.html
Stereo Receiver, Turntable, and Speakers - $200, Technics SA-202 receiver, Technics SL-B2 Turntable, and a pair of bookshelf ESS PS-9A with Heil tweeters. i could live with this rig.

There's a sub-forum down below containing requests for it. Basically, it's AK members who are willing to physically transport items for other members. It's theoretically possible to link up several volunteer members and move something such as a pair of speakers cross country.

I guess it just so frustrates me because I'm in it for the hobby, but I keep missing out on the goodies to those who are in it for the money. I should have figured this would find its way to AK. These are my speakers for sale. I didn't post them here on the AK classsifieds, because I didn't want to deal with shipping these boxes, and because some of you know what crazy deals I scored these with. :D I'm trying to raise the funds for the cost of Merrylander's overhaul of my Yamaha CR-2020, which I just packed off to UPS yesterday. $63 one-way from Seattle to Maryland :yikes: I never did acquire a liking to the sound of the HPM-100s, and I prefer my KLH 17s to the Advents, so I'm selling those too. I still have a house full of early '80s Boston Acoustics as well. Besides getting the money for Rob to repair my receiver, I will now have space to put the new deals waiting to come my way at the local thrifts. If anyone is interested in these locally, or wants to handle the shipping of them, send me a PM.

I was wondering if those were yours. So, you never could get the HF to sound good to you either, eh? A shame, there's some things the HPM-100s do well, but that too hot upper end just ruins it. Well, at least you now know what sound you don't like -- Advents are upwards of 12 dB hot in the upper midrange/lower treble and the HPM-100s are 14 dB such while the KLHs are much more tame.
Look forward to seeing pictures and hearing a report back on your Merrylander overhaul.

No reason to be jealous, Bolly. The Seattle Craigslist is horrendously hounded by resellers, so only a fraction of the goodies posted on it ever make it into the hands of those who'll actually hold onto the goods and enjoy them for any length of time. I've been quite lucky, but my success rate is around 10% and that 10% only of the lower end deals and from the time before the resellers ruined the list.

Little slow there, Dingus. Already saw it, contacted the guy, and heard back. Here's what he had to say:
Right now I have a Kenwood KR-3090, a Pioneer SX 525, and a Magnavox Stereo 500. I'll have a couple of Sansuis soon also. I was planning on pricing each of them depending on condition, power, quality, etc. These are all going to be $75 to $100. I'll work on taking pictures this evening, but they're all in good shape cosmetically. Let me know if I can give you any more information. Thanks.
Too much for my cheap blood, but may be just the thing for someone looking for one of these rigs.

Update on the vintage receivers ad. (No affiliation nor interest in any item, just wanted to provide some follow-through).
I'd like to get $100 for the Kenwwood and Magnavox, but I'd take $75 for the Pioneer (it is missing a button, although in my opinion it has the best sound of the three.)

Just allow a couple of weeks for me to get over to Seattle and the packages together.

well since my coworkers blew my Yamaha CR-700, i'm in the market for a cheap, $50 or less, yet nice sounding integrated or receiver. will be pairing it with a pair of Large Advent Utility's and figure 30wpc or better will do fine. if he has anything that would fit that bill then by all means yes! plus if you scout it out, that will save me a trip on Monday as well.

Unfortunately, I've a lot of errands to run tomorrow. So, a few minutes to quickly test something and run would work, but sitting down and trying to choose an apt unit from that tremendous stack ... whew. Heck, I'm not even done with finals yet, so I'm already intellectually drained, that type of a decision is currently above my faculties at the moment.
I'll see how late it is when I get to Seattle and if I can con my friends into cutting down on their Costco trip (show up in a truck and I automatically get pressed into service for hauling stuff). I still doubt I'll have any time before late, late night for an extended stop over.

I might give him a call, and see what his turntable collection holds. I'd like to upgrade from the Pioneer PL-400 I've had since I bought it new back in '78-'79. I showed the pictures he posted to my wife and daughters, who like to give me good natured kidding about my new hobby. They now agree that my burgeoning interest in vintage audio is in no way near some guys levels of obession, er interest...

12-09-2005, 08:33 PM
Guys,
I must confess... I just got back from spending a few hours over at this guy's house. And, while there is still a whole lot of gear left, there are only a few pieces that I would have any interest in.
His phone was littlerally ringing off the hook the entire time. It sounded like the entire world was going to l.itterally descend upon his place. But I was one of the early ones, and, well; I kind-of cleaned up in a big way...
He really just wanted to clean out his closets, and his storage lockers. So his motto was "the more you buy, the less you pay". So, neddeless to say, I plundered a small portion of the collection, but it consisted of the majority of the interesting tube gear.
A partial list of my crimes follows:
2 HK tube integrated amps.
2 Bogen tube integrated amps.
2 Luxman SS integvrated amps.
1 Very unusual quite high-end 3-head vintage marantz Casette deck.
1 Marantz Model 23 Receiver (with the super rare wooden cabinet)
Several pices of test equipment
Thousands of sorted, mil-spec resistors,
A hole box full of misc chokes
A couple of output transformers
And more....
I hesitate to say what I paid, but I can assure you that it was a screaming deal!!!
There are stil dozens of recievers, and probably more than 500 transformers, and various pieces of of test equipment. He had a whole stack of turntables, for those of you who are interested in mass market units.
The best piece that he had was not for sale (or if it was, it would absolutely NOT have been a bargain). That was one very nice sounding Eico 87.
There were still a few mis-matched pieces of tube equipment, and several tube testers, but there were only a couple of pieces of stereo tube gear still remaining (he did still have a number of mono units).
He's a great guy, but for anyone who wants a shot at the reamining loot, I strongly suggest running to West Seattle on Saturday. I doubt that very much will still be around after the weekend...

whats that stuff on the woofers?
A type of clear latex. This is the same guy I picked up a pair of Infinity RSbs (and a Pioneer SX-727) from a while back. He repaired the foams on my RSbs with the same stuff and, well, I'm still going to refoam them. It's sealed the rotten foams and retained the form, but it's a bit stiffer (yet still oddly rubbery) and the foam is still pulling off the cone edge underneath.
I can say that this guy has a lot of stuff and mostly just wants to get rid of a lot of it. Go there for the speakers and you'll probably walk out with something else. As to those Infinities, though, they're BOTL mass market speakers from ~1973. When fixed up, they're still just average.

Seattle CL pretty much sucks these days -- it has turned into an auction site. The fellow with those ESS speaks was taking offers, seding and re-sending emails with "updated" high bids, if anyone wanted to bid again. Kept sending me them for days. The price was reasonable still, but I won't deal with people like that just on principle: It's either a sale or an auction, not both.
In fact, every decent piece that I've contacted the seller on in the last while has been the same game: people get so many responses that they say, "I've undervalued it", and then take bids. Fair enough, I guess, but not my thing.

No, I passed. The cabinets sounded like they were in rough shape. I was busy heading down to Puyallup to pick up the Yamaha CR-420 receiver and Genesis I speakers that I won on eBay last week. The speakers have beautiful oak cabinets, and the Yamaha is the cleanest CR series receiver I've come across. Well worth the 90 mile round trip drive to get them.

That looks like a great deal on those. They have really low WAF though, and my spouse might start to object to my vintage purchases if I tried to shoehorn those into our living room. That Goodwill is one of my regular haunts, so I'm saddened to see that they're selling online now. At least they are putting reasonable prices on these, unlike the SA that is close by on 4th Ave S. BTW I stopped in to that SA yesterday, and they had a pair of Genesis II speakers for $69.95 if anyone in the Seattle area is interested. Too steep for my thrift store budget.
Charivari
05-18-2006, 02:19 PM
Yeah, being nearly 3'x3' black panels definitely makes them low WAF nevermind a bit difficult to find the room for. Still, they're worth picking up if you can do it. The midrange is quite good and despite the appearance of these, they are not planars and so are easier to position than Magnepans that they share a similar sound with.
I'm not sure about the thing with Goodwill using Craigslist, but I like it a lot better than the eBay crates that have ruined our local stores. Look at it this way, you can just browse Craigslist to see if they have any goodies rather than drive through city traffic to visit in person. I think I've been to this store and recall that parking was a pain.
Sure are a lot of Dahlquists in Washington, though. They're constantly popping up on Craigslist and a sizable number of members on the Dahlquist group (see sig) are from Washington as well. Evidently, Magnolia was a very successful DQ-10 dealer back in the day.

Yeah, I figured they were kabuki, that's obvious enough. However, there appears to be an actual reason behind the driver layout rather than the typical kabuki method of shoving a driver wherever there's room enough. I believe it was the EPI 240 that had a similar driver arrangement with the idea being that it would cause the whole speaker to act as a point source. My thoughts on it, though, are that one would need to be a goodly distance away for the drivers to integrate to a reasonable degree.

Considering I've just spent the last few hours trying to reorganize stuff so I can have room to live in (7 large pairs of speakers were in my living room until just a little bit ago), I'll have to pass on those no matter my desires. Nevermind the cash outlay and I doubt this seller would be interested in trading those speakers for others (as has been my primary means of obtaining new goodies as of late).

Someone needs to develop a speaker that can be comfortably slept on. How about a Mylar hammock that when pulled taut doubles as an ESL?

Sorry to hear that, Brad, but it doesn't surprise me. If those AMTs are the same as in the pictures, then the seller bought them at $50 just to flip without even bothering to repair the passive radiator. Since the seller is trying to do an auction of sorts, he's violating the Craigslist rules and the ad is now valid for flagging.
