Hi all,

I've just been tidying up around the 'mancave' and came across these four LPs from two of Jimmy Dorsey's singers from the forties.

Having gone to the trouble of scanning the covers I'd like to share them with you. Enjoy :thmbsp:

All four albums are in excellent condition and really sound good. The Ella Mae Morse one is dated 1969 and is re-issue of a 1950s album.

Of the Helen O' Connell LPs, the Era Reborn one is dated 1960. No date on a Beautiful Friendship and the other one "Helen'O" is still sealed. Gonna opend it one of these days and play it. I don't think these are worth much overall but they are nice to have and provide some diversity to my collection.

Looks like the jackets are in GREAT shape!!!! LPs must be in GREAT shape also... You scan 1/2 the jacket and paste together in photoshop?

Looking in Goldmine and there are 2 listing for O'Conneel (not yours) and the price is $3-$12 for one and $10 - $40 for the other.

For the Morse on Capitol for "Hits of EMM and FS" :
(S) $12.50, $25.00, $25.00 (VG,VG+,NM)
(M) $10, $20, $40

Looks like they may have some value...

OMI,

Yeah these LPs are in really good condition. I would rate them VG.

I had a look in the UK Record Collector Guide (equivalent to Goldmine) and there wasn't even a listing for Helen O'Connell. I guess she wasn't a big hit over here.

Personally, the music aside (which is great anyway) these are worth having for the covers alone. Really evocative of that era.

I was given a heads up on Helen by an old bloke (must have been 80!) who I got talking to at the local s/h record store. I spent hours listening to him talk about the 1930s/40s swing bands. It's really amazing to meet somebody with a passion for this music, especially something that is now (amazingly) looked up as being a bit naff.

Re the covers, I did just that. Photoshop does a good with them but it can be a bit tricky at times getting the colour balance right between the two halves. Not a big problem for me a I normally just use the images for my Database.
