Been playin' the SL-23 today, I put a fresh stylus in the M95HE cartridge, but dang! just get comfortable and I've got to wend my way between a stack of speakers and squeeze between my 'temporary' stack of two very large receivers on a big TV stand, the weight is probably 175 lbs so it doesn't move easily, to flip or change the album.
I need a stylus force guage.

LOL Pete, sounds a lot like work! I bought the Shure STF gauge for about ummmm 25 bucks shipped I think. While it's not 100% accurate, (what is) it gets ya real close. At its price, that works for me! ;) Oh and yesterday my mirror alignment gauge came from Turntable Basics. All ready for that Thorens TD 160 to hit next week. WOOOHOOOO! :grnbounce

I'm an Audio Asylum regular--where Nottingham tables are quite popular. Not only does the Nott' lack all the convenient automatic features, but you have to spin the platter each time to get it started (that's part of the design). Of course the record clamp has to be removed/ reinstalled each LP.

Oh, lawdy, Fear, that would be too much! My 'problem' right now is the best cartridge/stylus I have out is on the SL-23. The SL-1300 has a very good NOS TOTL? Pickering, but it's downstairs. The Denon should get a stylus, but it's not to be found anywhere, so it looks like cartridge replacement.

Explaining the Nottingham "give it a push" philosophy raises quite a few eyebrows and even owners joke about it, but you really get used to it quickly and it now seems the most natural thing in the world. In fact, I mistakenly spin my CD "platter" sometimes just out of habit.

The Nott' sounds awfully good, so I'm willing to go through the spinning ritual.

BTW, I've appropriated the moniker "Fear3000" as a private joke to myself. As Josh, the chess wunderkind in "Searching For Bobby Fischer," said, "I'm not him."

I guess your private joke includes calling yourself, Felix, too, as well as signing your posts in a manner identical to mine. While I'm certainly flattered, I'd like to humbly suggest that you may want to work on developing an identity of your own.

Best Wishes,
Felix
