Testing by MDG revealed that the disc was compatible with all currently available ‘universal’ high-resolution players from Pioneer, Marantz and Onkyo, together with all Pioneer single-format machines and standard CD-only hardware.
A disc copy is on its way to High Fidelity Review for review.

AL, are you saying that DVD-A will be able to play on redbook only players?

I have not been able to confirm your question for certain one way or the other as yet.
However I have been conveyed now that the music companies are going to back out release dates a little as apparently the DVD Audio/CD hybrid technology is expected to be soon.

I think CD/DVD-A hybrids make a lot of sense; I also think it's silly to include 24 bit MC/2 ch pcm/DD/DTS all on the same disc! I'd favor a 24 bit MC & stereo alongside a stereo 16 bit PCM.
And on a slightly different note, I'd love to see the idiot that conceived of the non-standard "Super Jewel Box" beaten severely about the head and shoulders! Put em in a damn jewel case!

Recent problems with DVD-A/CD hybrids is that most players out there get confused by them. I remember reading this on anotheer forum. Apparantly the players that can play them often times recognize either the DVD or the CD protion but not both together. It is not supposed to happen all the time, either. Just intermitantly.
