this afternoon on the garage stereo, (Sansui 771 through Sansui SP-1000s). Sittin' in a lawn chair out front. Man, what a great LP that is and what a groundbreaking recording too. Roy Acuff was not totally comitted but he decided to at least check out what they were doing and after hearing a couple of tracks he was in. Vassar Clements was sorta discovered on this LP. He was certainly discovered by Doc Watson and several of the other Nashville cats who were involved. I mainly listen to Blues and Rock and classic rock and bluesy rock but this particular bluegrass record is well worth getting and hearing. It is the original first one. I think there was a volume II or something but I can't vouch for it. This one however changed a lot of us rockers into acoustic country rockers.

I'm not Julien, but my copy is United Artists Records UAS 9801 dated MCMLXXII, and yes it is a killer.

Since you already have the info I wont repost it but it really is a GREAT release. I forgot to mention. They asked Bill Monroe to play and he would have nothing to do with those "hippies". It was a weird time and it was a real feat bringing all these people together. It turned out to be incredible.

I have WTCBU in vinyl and CD. Isn't this the first time Doc Watson and Merle Travis met? I think that's in the liner notes, if my memory is working OK. An outstanding release and landmark event.

The finale-"Will the Circle Be Unbroken" is KILLER. I dare you to listen to Mother Maybelle & Co. with dry eyes. This, gentlemen, is what Bluegrass is/was all about. "I was standin/By my window/ On one cold and cloudy day/When I saw the hearse come a rollin'/for to carry my mother away....."-Sandy G.

Mother Maybelle is one of a very FEW of my heroes- I may have to pull out an album next.

I am about an hour away from Bristol & maybe 45 minutes from the Carter Fold, which some consider sacred ground.-Sandy G.

A sealed copy of that album went to SKI at the AKFest. I wonder how he likes it?
