Hi,
I'm sure this is a dumb question but I just can't figure this out. I bought an old Zenith Allegro combination stereo turntable at the flea market. It has an arm which holds the vinyl in place when you are using the record stacker.
Right now it's in the down position. When I try to lift it up, it doesn't come up enough to clear the space in order for me to turn it out of the way. How do I get this up and over? Is there some trick to this? Thanks in advance for the help.

No trick, just lift it up, then it pivots to the side.

Thanks. Then there must be some kind of problem with mine. The changer arm lifts, but not to the point that I am able to turn it. The pin which keeps it in place does not clear the slot, if this is making any sense.
I guess I'm going to have to take this apart to see what is going on inside, unless someone has some suggestions.

A cable could have been caught underneath and is preventing the mechanism from working freely :scratch2:

If its the changer i'm thinking about (with round circle at end of arm instead of the L-shape arm)...the arm pivots straight up (sort of like a hinge) enough to put records on instead of the normal type that pulls up and swings out of the way. Some later Magnavox changers had the same set-up. Either way it might have hardened lube and might need to be taken apart then cleaned and re-lubed to function properly.

Hi,
Thanks for the replies. I have it half way apart and it's the strangest thing. It's the normal type L-shaped arm...but it just won't raise all of the way. I can see the bottom of the pivot rod and slide it back and forth, but it just won't go all of the way up so the pin clears the hole to allow it to turn. There is a second pin on the bottom side of the pivot rod but it doesn't seem to be a factor because it's not not going high enough anyway. I'm afraid to take this apart too much because I have no experience with this type of stuff. Maybe it's time to try a shop?
Thanks, Mario

Maybe dribbling a little bit of WD-40 down the shaft will free it up.

Hi,
Thanks everyone for their assistance. I finally got the arm to slide up. For some reason, the slot was too small. I lubed the pivot rod and pried the slot open a tiny bit and now it's coming out. Here is a pic...I'm happy with my $5 investment.
