Hi all, This my first visit to this section of AK and I would appreciate any info on this amp. I picked it up at a moving sale today. It is the Peavey Classic 100, tweed I believe, with all original documents (except bill of sale) but it was purchased 6/27/75 according to pocket warranty card. It is in very good condition and sounded nice when demoed. I bought it from the original owner for $35.00. Is it time to take up guitar?
Thanks

Hmm...the only classic 100 I remember came out in the mid-90's, a tweed head with eight EL84 output tubes.
Got any pics?

It is a 212 Classic 100 Series. Uses 6L6GC tubes. Warranty card purchase date is 6-27-75. Talked with seller and he said he thinks only around 300 were made but said he didn't think Peaveys were all that valuable!http://audiokarma.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=37430&stc=1

Wow...didn't know they made a 100-watter in that old Classic line, and have never seen a tweed one. Probably not too valuable from a collecting standpoint as I don't think many collect Peavey, but they always made a good working man's amplifier, rugged as they come with at least decent tone. I bet this one's one of their solid-state pre/tube power setups, Hartley Peavey's take on Music Man.
Bet it has a huge-sounding clean!

Peavey is mostly known for rock gear and audio gear. Most manufacturers use the word "Classic" very loosely. It is a marketing term usually. No real harm done.
Currently Peavey's all-tube "Classic" amplifier line runs from 20w to 50w, all guitar amps IE no bass amps, etc. They are very highly thought of and very competively piced. I currently have the 30w combo and have owned the 50watt and 20w combos. The 50w 2x12 amp is a killer amp with to-die-for tone and reliability. I only sold mine after a heart attack made a 60# lb. amp out of the question.
Peavey did make a 100w amp head in this line. I don't think they ever produced a 100w combo in the tweed Classic line. The 100w head was meant to be used with their speaker cabs (4x12, 1x15 etc).
Due to the early date on your amp and w/o seeing a picture, my guess is you have an earlier design that was called the Classic but is not related to the current tweed Classic line. Also, it is possible that you just have a very early model of the current line, which would be cool but probably not worth big bucks. You never know though.
I will try to attach photos of some of the current tweed models. I also have 2 early 90's factory brochures with excellent photos of the whole tweed Classic line. I guess I don't know much about your amp in particular, but it doesn't sound like a member of the current grouping. Ciao! PS: No luck with the photos. PM me with some kind of e-mail address and I'll send them along.

I used a 70's Peavey Classic back in college in the early 90's. It had a ton of headroom, was clean as a whistle throughout, and didn't make much of an impression on me either way. I believe it was a 2x12 100 watter. Kind of sounded like a Fender Twin without quite as much character to the sound; hard to explain. As for the tweed covering, I have never seen a Peavey of that vintage in tweed. Later, in the 90's with the top-mount tube amps there was tweed available, but I've never seen a front-mount that way. All I've seen had that super nubbly rubbery stuff Peavey used on everything back then.
