Any idea what the rate will be for a non-vendor room for audio demos?? :scratch2:

grumpy

Not yet but I can say it will unfortunately be more then last year. Also there will be a SPL limit placed on the rooms to be strictly enforced :)

I'll be there, but probably flying so unable to bring gear. I could bring my SPL meters though :D

I'll keep my Altec A7's home, if I crank them from home - 40 miles west of the fest, I'm sure they'll be acceptable to the SPL police at that range!! Unless a ballroom is available, they're not worth bringing, way too much hassle. If someone wants to make a field trip, they'll be here, maybe all 10 at once can be played? I'm working on the South Lyon Theatre sound system again this week-end, I wired up a pair EV S15-3's last week-end, they cranked on a Marantz 2270 in that 180 seat theatre, currently they just have a single speaker with a mono block amp, so stereo will be a monumental leap!

I don't recall anyone in particular's room that really needed any policing beyond one. You guys are safe!

At this rate we will sell out the members rooms very soon ! So if you want one Please let me know ASAP.

A word about the SPL police. I was not kidding. Last year one of the main sources of aggravation to me was fielding complaints about SPL's that exceeded at least 110 db. I was constantly shutting doors and asking people to shut doors. It is inconsiderate to push your music on others. Sure you paid for a room but force feeding your music to other rooms is just in bad taste. You do not need have ear bleeding levels to achieve good sound and not to mention it hurts my ears every time i had to walk in to one of these room to ask them to turn it down. This year I'm gonna guess we will say anything much above 100 db or so will be asked to turn it down a couple of times. After that they will be asked to leave and will not be permitted back at future Fests.

If this seems harsh take in to consideration those vendors that paid a huge amount of money for their rooms compared to the members and they could not even hear their systems. Now I am not talking about cranking a song or two. What i am talking about is hour after hour of 110 db music. Sorry but this is how it has to be..

I LOVE the SPL limit! The room proximity and such make it neccesary. I probably pushed our system close to those limits for a couple of songs. My and my SPL meter will galdly comply!

Pencil me in.

Actually l will be releasing my own personnal audio invention that l believe will revolutionlize audio.

This is a tweek l have discovered that greatly increases the enjoyment of music, while improving the audio performance of any piece of electronic equipment. A simple outline of it's concept is listed below.

1. Sit in a comfortable chair.
2. Put on your favourite music with the exception of rap and any thing that remotely has to do with chanting. ( Hint for Reyneman).
3. Drink lots of Canadian beer. :thmbsp: :D

Is that 100 Db "speed limit" A or C weighted? :) Whatever it is, I can self-police with my own Rat Shack meter.

EDIT, oh and also is that 100 Db based on peak or time-averaged?

Retro and I were thinking we'd share a room and throw a combination effort together.

Greg will keep an eye on it, so I'm free to lend a hand

Just to make sure I'm clear - this list is for guys who will be setting up systems, not rooms for other people attending, right?

Gotta down Scott and Greg

Rich

You are correct. This is only for reserving listening rooms. Sleeping rooms are reserved directly through the hotel by the member.

Dave... it might be interesting to compare several different 'little' speakers if you are game... and folks are willing to bring some of their faves.

I'd be tempted to bring a pair of Paradigm Atoms...

Edit: I also have a Sonance DB4 4-way speaker selector switch with impedance protection that I can bring to the party!

I prolly can drag a set of Boston Acoustic A40s in, and maybe the ADS L300s if I can score a new tweeter.

Grumpy, I'm a little late to the party here, but if there is still rooms available...sign me up. Also, I have a larger truck now so I will be able to help transport larger systems in the mid Michigan area if needed. Either way, room or no room, I plan on attending this year.

I've got 3 pairs of small speakers myself that I can bring. One is home made with
a nice ribbon tweeter. I brought them last year but they didn't get used much.

They are based on the PE $100 jobs with the 6.5" famous dayton driver But a newly
designed xover and obviously the tweeter. For less than $200 you can build a set of
these very easily and I think they blend tremendously well, cabinet/woof/tweet!

botrytis
09-08-2005, 07:57 PM
If I get off my butt, I have the fixins' for a nice set of DIY mini-monitors with really nice drivers. The Mid-woofer is a 6.5" with a 3" voice Coil and the tweeters (nice double-cambered silk domes) from the same manufacturer (Hi-Vi Research). We shall see if I get off my fat can and build them.

A small speaker comparison room might not be a bad idea!!

I have my $100 DIY Speakers that everyone got to see built last year. I would be willing to go in with someone on a room. And if I can get one of the other Colorado members to split the gas there I think I could do it. :naughty:

Want to split your room Dave? A couple of others and it would be cheap?

You planning on going? I am definitely going, just not sure whether to drive or fly. I will let you know when I figure this out and maybe we can head there together.
