Picked 'em up yesterday. All's fine except 1 blown (verified) "5 inch polygraph midbass coupler"

any ideas where to source one? Infinity doesn't have anymore. I'm not sure it can be repaired, there is heavy vc rub and the metal dome is completely shredded. It looks like someone figured it was bad and decided to make it worse.

and *then* they cut the leads. They CUT them... why why why??

anyway. $200 CL boston. I'm pretty satisfied.

--edit- wow, what a shiatty pic. I'll take another one tonight.

Just in case you didn't already know, you can go here (http://www.infinity-classics.de/infinity/models/Kappa-series-1987/Kappa-8-8A/body_kappa_8a.html) and get most of the information you may want.

Those polygraph midbasses do turn up on eBay occassionally, but not too often. Their availability is probably a bit lower even than the Quantum series midrange domes. You might try begging on this board (http://p079.ezboard.com/binfinityclassics), but it receives so little traffic that you may not hear a response for months.

So, good luck on your hunt, if you keep an eye on eBay, you might luck out and find the driver you need within a month or so. Still, you got yourself an awesome score. Congratulations!

Those are some sweet speakers. A while back I almost snagged a pair of Kappa 9's, but circumstances didn't work out for me. Ah well. At any rate, the midbass couplers are notorious for going bad, just so you know. What do you plan on driving those bad boys with, as they are also notorious for eating up amps.

on to my next quest. Most of my stuff is too low power, I'm thinking about a Yamaha m-xx series poweramp. Maybe an 80?

or a mc2xx5? ...always coveted the bouncy blues

From what I hear, a Yamaha M-80 just may be the ticket. I still regret letting pass the mint condition one I once found for $200.

However, if you want a lot of decent sounding power on the cheap, there was, until recently, a Radio Shack PA amp that was closing out on the cheap; the MPA-250. I picked one several months ago, late Winter, I believe, for less than $80 as it was the display model. You should be able to find one for an equally good price if you scrounge a bit. While only rated at 125 wpc at 8 ohms, I believe it is rather under-rated and does better than that. I run mine on my 4 ohm Quantum 2s, the same impedance as your Kappas are rated at, and it can drive them louder than I'd ever care to listen to and that's with the big Quantums that are even more power hungry than the Kappas. If you can find this amp cheap enough, you can bridge it and run two as monoblocks, which should keep you happy enough until you can find a good amp at a discount.

Or you can always go the "bouncy blues" route first off.

Can you believe it? Just the thing on epay. Mid-bass coupler. I am not associated with this sale, I am just answering the question. Happy bidding.
