View Full Version : Tuner Shielding

I'm looking for a tuner for my home office, and wondering if current tuners such as the MR85 are shielded more effectively from computer generated interference than older tuners such as my MR78 (which after all was built before the first PC). I've seen comments about CD players generating noise and needing to be switched off when listening to a tuner, and wonder if the same holds true for some tuners and PCs. Since turning off the PCs in a home office is not an option, lookking for a well shielded tuner seems like the way to go. Anyone have experience with this issue or knowledge of how the MR85 might differ from earlier models?

While I no longer have a tuner hooked up to my PC, but I tried several at one time, and never found an issue. How close to your PC do you plan to put your tuner?

I don't think the current MR85 is better shielded than an MR78, but I may be wrong. There are the TM-1 modules which are "encased". The best shielding I ever saw was in an HK Citration 18 and a Marantz ST6000.

Sheilding is not an issue on the MR85..
