Brussels sprouts are very fine vegetables, although very fragile. Like everything else they taste bad when overcooked, which is easy to do. I think now of kale, the world's most detestable vegetable because it is so easy to burn. Brussels sprouts have a delicate, nutty flavor. I like them best either alone or with butter, very lightly steamed. And they must be fresh -- frozen will not do.
They do look evil, though.

That pic almost gave me a bad flashback.
I've BEEN in that field, with those skies. I swear.
Cheers,
Russ
PS - 'Flash' them in hot Extra Virgin, first cold press, Olive oil with a little sea salt, and fresh cracked black pepper - THEN saute in sweet cream, unsalted butter.

Russ, I think you've done it with your recipe. I believe that's a must try!

Indeed! That was a SF Chronicle picture taken of the harvest in Half Moon Bay. I, too, have seen something just like that. It was then I realized the part Brussels Sprouts are to play in the apocalypse. Or at least in the invasion of the pod people.

My wife makes them like that, but she also puts toast crumbs in the butter when she sautee's. It turned me from a Brussels sprouts hater to a Brussels sprouts lover with one bite!

If Bitter Bobby bagged a bushel of brussels, how many brussels did bitter Bobby brag about bagging? :)
