Hi!

the people from AK were very kind in advising me on a problem I had with an amp recently, so I have another question that I'm hoping you might be able to help with. I bought an Onkyo T-9 tuner yesterday: it looks very well-cared for and I like it a lot, but for one thing: it only plays in mono (?)
I connected it with a 75 ohm coax to the fm cable outlet on my wall (with the other end stripped and connected and grounded to the 75 ohm connector screw on the back of the tuner). I could tune just fine but everything was in mono. There are three lights on the front indicating 'Locked', 'Tuned' and 'Stereo', but only the 'Locked' one lights up when a station is tuned into.

It's not the cable or the socket on the wall, because I got normal stereo reception on my old JVC receiver when I connected it to the wall socket.

Then I thought, maybe the cable signal is incompatible with this tuner (what do I know?:)), so today I went out and bought an outdoor antenna (like in the att. picture). I connected it to the 300 ohm screws on the back, and again reception seems fine, but the sound is definitely mono. Like with the cable signal, the 'Locked' light works fine, but 'Tuned' and 'Stereo' never light up. So she knows she's only doing mono... But it's the sound not the lights I'm worried about.

Does this sound like a common (easy-to-fix) problem, or could it be any number of things? It's a beautiful-looking tuner, so I would rather take it to the repair shop than return it.
I greatly appreciate any comments you might have. Most of the stuff on AK is way over my head, but my (technically savvy) granddad would have loved the discussions you guys have!

Best regards, Willem
