Was helping a friend get his receiver ready for shipping out to Radio X when he reminded me of the reuseable fiberglass shipping containers we used to ship our test instruments back and forth to the job sites we worked at a lifetime ago (semiconductor manufacturing plants). 24"x24"x12" instrument cases with latches on all four sides. My friend has one, so I borrowed it for the shipping of my new B-2.

First thing was to cut up some 2" styrofoam sheet (comes in 4'x8' sheets at Lowe's or HD) to line it with. 24"x24" for the bottom, 12"x24" for the sides (doubled on two of the sides so 4" there) and 20" X 16" to fit into the opening left above the amp. May need to remove a couple of the 2" pieces on the one sides if it proves too tight, but is better to send along with too much than with too little. Add in a liberal dose of the large bubble-wrap and foam-rubber to take up any slack and should be good to go.

Here's a pic. I'll let you know how it works out coming back from Lexington, KY (not as in jelly :naughty: ).

Maybe a some AKers might want to get a few of these for everyone's use. If you have, simply hang onto until the next member needs and he would ship it to the seller (at the buyer's expensive, of course) and so on. Hold it until the next AKer needs.

Just received another B-2 amp packed in the container. ~1000 miles via Fedex Ground without a bit of harm. This thing is really worth its weight if you are going to be shipping more than once or twice a year.

Nice Box!

Looks like a good re-useable shipping case. You could have the basic foam sheets cut (top, sides, & bottom) then custom fit the remainder.

That case was made right here in Port Jervis, NY by www.skydyne.com.
I would love to get a hold of one but those are seriously expensive unless they happen to have fallen off the truck.

Thrift shops and eBay have good prices on these things. And, they are not much money: http://cgi.ebay.com/SHOK-STOP-Shipping-Storage-Container-Electronic-Test_W0QQitemZ7554339428QQcategoryZ92079QQrdZ1QQcm dZViewItem
