I bought this camera brand new. Used it a few months, put it in a suitcase, forgot about it then found it this morning while deciding on what old suitcases to donate to GW.

I heard something rattling around, opened it up and "VIOLA". . .my old camera. . . I dont think it works though as I cant see the shutter open. . . One of the rings on the lense was real loose. . . I think something might have slipped. She was in a nice leather case so the rattling around should not of hurt her. . .

Kinda nice old camera, mint cosmeticaly. . . I will have to get a roll of film and play with it again. Manual is long gone. . .funny the battery was still good. . .weired. . . almost 40 years packed away, 35 anyway. . .

I think Wiggam Jones has a knack for fixing the Hi-Matics...might want to get you some lighter fluid and give him a shout...i would bet he can talk you through getting this little beauty back to good working order...that had to have been a nice surprise!!...a

For now I use it as a "Nick-Nack". . .She is pretty and just about antique(sp) anyway. . .and come to think about it some of the wife's nick-nacks are not so cheap either. . . . . Reminds me of days gone bye. . . . :smoke:

Did you know that the camera that John Glen took into orbit was a Minolta HI Matic-9. It was the version built for GAF called the Autoset Cts. I did the mods on it for NASA and John. I built a hand grip that mounted so it was held up side down and a special external viewfinder so he could aim the camera with his helmet on. He had to be able to hold and wind the camera with one hand. It said GAF on the camera but it was a Minolta Hi Matic -9. I still have a early version that NASA never got.
