Kim.
This is not a standalone amp. The QS-500 was ment to be an add-on for your existing 2 channel system so you could turn it into a quadraphonic (4 channel) system. THere are only two inputs, one for a 2ch source, one for a 4ch source. No tone controls either. You connect it to your tape record, and playback jacks. It then becomes the volume and balance for the entire setup. It was made around 71-72 and is about 20 watts per channel. Its not bad, but if your looking for a better version of that look at a QS-800 or a QS-800a. Both of those have the neat "vrio matrix" decoder that puts your stereo material into 4 channels. The QS-500 has a first generation decoder, which mainly takes the out-of-phase stereo in recordings, and dumps it to the rear channels. Its not great, but neat in the sense that you can do it....

I have a Sansui QS-500 rear amp. I think it is 33 w/ch and has 4 neat looking meters. I paid $10 for it at garage sale and $10 for a Sansui RA-500 reverb unit too.
I run a Sansui 9090db with HPM 100 in front and JBL L-100 in the rear. The QS-500 lets me control the volume of the rears without having to add a couple of L pads. It is confusing figuring out which volume control to use but I have not taken time to plot it out. I do not have the operating manual.
I would not pay more than say $30 for the QS-500.

Hi Charlie
If I remember correct you shall connect QS-500 to your 9090 Rec-Out and Tape-Play. (If you already have a tape deck connected, move the connection to QS-500). Switch on the Tape-Play, preset your 9090 volume control to match the sound from your QS-500.
By this setup you control all channels by QS-500 volume control.
