What would be the proper and safest way to ship a pair of woofers without surrounds to avoid damaging the vc.

Disconnect the spider and remove the cone for shipment? I wouldn't ship it whilst unattatched.

?? I dont know if you are asking about the spider or telling me about the spider. The surrounds are warn out, and i dont want any damage to happen while shipping them to me.

Just wire-tie the woofers together face-to-face through the screw holes (or I suppose you could use screws :D ), wrap generously in bubble wrap, and stick 'em in a box. They'll be fine, IME. - Mark

Agree with Mark on the face-to-face packaging, but IME it's also a good idea to put a stiff cushioner arc between the drivers along the edge, not overlapping into the surround. I usually do four of cardboard or the like. Insurance to keep the edges from getting dinked.

Yup...Mark has it right. When I buy them from someone else I send them a photo of how I would like them shipped together if they can't box them seperate. The plastic zip ties work great!

Well, this isn't what you want to hear, but why not find something to hold the cone centered for shipping. Something like, I don't know, a new surround maybe?

I shipped speakers needing surrounds by carefully cushoning the cone to frame area with a light wadding of paper towel. this is to keep the cone from banging on the VC in shipment. This can be done in addition to tywraping the baskets together.
