Looked Lonely Here, So ... Anthem PVA7 vs. Outlaw 770. Whaddya All Think?

I'm thinking of getting a 7 channel amp for my HT system. I have no complaints about my Onkyo 797 THX receiver, but want to put an Outlaw ICBM-1 bass manager between the Onkyo and an outboard 7 channel amp.

Reviewers speak highly of the 125 watt x 7 Anthem PVA7 and the 200 watt x 7 Outlaw 770.

So, Rodan v. Godzilla? Who wins?

Hey ya 2x6, welcome to the forum. I'm not all so familiar with the Anthem PVA 7 but I have had direct contact with Outlaws 7 channel amp. A buddy down the street from me has one. When he got it why I hustled right over to help him stuff it in his audio rack. 90lbs of foot stompin amp to be sure. Before we manhandled it in we cracked the cover off it for some nudie pics. Nice machine beyond a doubt. I can't imagine that you would not be thrilled owning it.

His processor is the new Outlaw also. Not sure of the model number sadly. All his speakers are the Onix Rockets and this amp blew out one of the woofer drivers the other day. Errrrrr OPPS! :naughty:

I have yet to date seen any DVDs with 7 channel audio output though. Saw a six channel one recently. I'm not sure if the industry will make it a priority to push in that direction or not. I get this feeling that they won't casue it's all John Q Public can do to muster up 5 speakers and a sub as it is. Now if you are talking music reproduction in that 7 channel mode then fine, if you like that sort of thing. To me that always sort of "freaked" me out and I never could sit and listen to it for very long.

Thanks, WildWest! I have a DVD Audio player in that system and you're right, it has only 5 channels, and although it is very dramatic, it does sort of freak me out too. For music, my personal favorite is a nice 5 watt per channel SET integrated, a pair of efficient speakers and a nice sub. Nevertheless, I feel the need to buy something complicated, heavy and powerful, so I'm thinking 7 channel amp. I would like to avoid blowing any speakers. Is there speaker protection circuitry on some amps that would have protected those Rockets from that Outlaw?
