Home today with nasty cold. Put a power cord on the Sony I got Mon. The play position is very touchy and you have to play with it to get it to stay in "play" The idler wheels need replacing as does the drive belt to the take up reel. Would like to get this fixed before investing in new idlers. Looks like the rubber "tires" come off like a VCR does. They do I discovered. Did sound good when I "held" it in "play" :)
Anyone know where I can get the tires and belts for a Sony TC 377? Any help will be appreciated. Cleaned a lot of crud from its insides. Must have sat in the former owners basement a long time. Cleaned up well though. Dont need but wanted a single motor Reel to Reel. Thanks guys.

The tires are unobtainium, but I think Terry Witt can rebuild them, as well as the pinchroller. I know I've fixed this same problem, but I can't remember the exact solution. It has to do with the auto shutoff on this deck. It is a Rube Goldberg contraption that keeps this arm/roller assembly from locking into the cam that the play lever turns. I think I took it all apart only to find that there is a simple adjustment for the auto shutoff. So look at the linkage that connects to the tape sensing arm, next to the erase head.

Terry can easily re-tire all of the rollers. Somebody has been advertizing TC-366 belt kits on EPay lately for about $15. The TC-366 has exactly the same belt complement as the TC-377, so this will work perfectly.

I just got a sony TC-377 and while it seems to work perfectly mechanically, I cannot get any sound out of it and the level needles do not move! can anyone tell me where I should start in trying to figure out my problem?
Thanks

Start by deremining if your problem is only in play, only in record, or both.

Are you sure there is something on them? Not trying to be a wiseass, just the obvious.

... and the monitor switches are set to tape, not to source?

Excellent point! Also, is your tape monitor on your preamp in the "tape" position? Sorry, if these seem pretty stupid; but we need to rule-out the simple stuff first.
