About 20% of my attempts are met with the Busy Server message. Is this left over from the server crash?

Nope, this is just server overload. Too many Akers online, for the old server. That's why we are trying to get a new one up and running. It would have been done, by now, too, if not for the  morons at the old hosting service, who pulled the plug on us.

Oh, man, first time it's happened to me this early in the morning: 6:55am EST?! I'm used to it in the evenings, but jeez! That new server can't come soon enough!
C'mon, gentlemen. Hit that PayPal button or get something into the mail! If I can do it, ANYONE can! :D

I sent wardsweb a pm about 3 to 4 days ago telling him that I wanted to send a cheque by mail for $50.00 but needed a little question answered. He has yet to get back to me. Probably busy with the server problems or maybe I asked the wrong person?? Soon as I get a response i'll send it in.

"Server Too Busy"
Had the same problem at a restaurant the other night.
Flashing some cash seems to help both problems. ;)

I've been getting that message alot in the evenings for about 3 weeks but i just keep hittin' the refresh till something happens. This forum is worth the wait. With dial-up the problem usually goes away while waiting for a page load. I'm a lottle strapped for cash right now but I'm seriously thinking about selling my unrestored 49' Philco 12" and let the proceeds go to the AK server fund. I forget the model number right now but it's the set with the one loktal right in the middle of the chassis under the neck of the crt (Philco had to stick at least one loktal in it). I think the 12LP4 is useable. If somebody knows an easy way for me to donate this to AK, let me know.

BTW, John Folsom had this same model with a working col-r-tel wheel in front of it so I know it'll pass a signal at least out to 3.58mc. through the I.F.'s!

Tommy, there was talk once of having a TV raffle to benefit AK. Shipping, as always, is the trick.

I forwarded it to Grumpy, as he is our treasurer.

Hmmph. Just because he has over a thousand posts he gets much better server response than us lowly newbies. 20% indeed!

More money, on the way.

Whatver happened to Sansui Louie's post to raise money for the server? Should it be resurrected? Hey Grump, let us know how close we are and if we have to we'll squeeze a few more pennies out of the piggy-banks.

The server's bought and paid for, gents......to which we owe you a great debt of thanks :thmbsp:

I can't recall the specs, but it is a dual processor machine and should do us for some time :)

We should be up on it at some point before December 1. The time that is being invested now is in restoring some of the pics.....long story short at this point everything through April of this year has been restored, but not on this server. We're still working on the balance of them.

Let me just say now that when we're on the new server, you're going to know it immediately. We're making a couple changes to the layout of the site to give it a fresh yet familiar appearance.

More than that, I ain't a gonna say :D

Once again, thanks VERY much to everyone for making this possible!

Thanks to you, Tim, Dave, Luther and everyone else involved in letting AK be our home away from home! :)

Want to add that Tim was a bit premature here. We only had enough money for the fee's to change us over and to pay for 3 months of server usage.

We are still way short for the other 9 months of the year and not to mention we have still not gotten the bill for the database repairs...

i was under the impression that the corruption was the fault of the service provider.

... that doesn't necessarily mean they are willing to accept responsibility and cover the recovery costs

Henry nailed it. Audiokarma is paying for the DB repairs because if we waited for our host to hell may freeze over.

Damn their cheap asses! Wish I could donate. Can't even help my church. And we need a new roof over the parish hall, and we're 8,000.00 short. To Grumpy, Karmakari, and the rest, my humble thanks for all you do.... :)

I myself would take the idiots to small claims court. They screw up, they should pay the bill. Or at least pay AK back after it's all fixed. Just my two centavos.
