My Rotel 981 is on its way to a new owner in NC and it's been almost two weeks since I listened to some tunes on my main system.
Last night after watching the Kings go down to the Wings in OT, I decided I was in the mood.
This CD is one of two studio recordings done by a "supergroup" called Captain Beyond.
Never heard it sound so good for a poorly reproduced album.
Very different from the eponymous offering primarily written by drummer Bobby Caldwell.
That album is like a storm in comparison. It completely knocked me out the first time I heard it.
Too short though.

The title song of second offering is a good tune, but don't understand the meaning of the title.
Paul Hornsby is a guest musician on "Starglow Energy".

Both are very good albums although I prefer the self titled first release. Didn't one or two of the guitarists from Iron Butterfly help form Captain Beyond?

Bobby Caldwell was with Johnny Winter.

Captain Beyond released a third album in 1977 titled Dawn Explosion. Haven't heard it. I don't even think it's in print.

Right, Caldwell was with White Trash.
Rod Evans-Deep Purple
Lee Dorman-bass IB
"Rhino" Rheinhardt-guitar IB
Caldwell-drums

Dorman wrote all the songs on the second album and Evans and Caldwell on the first.
Interesting that the albums are so different in sound wrt congas, timbales, etc on the SB album.
Michael Rodriguez drumming on SB is quite good, but not like BC's.
So too, the mixing with the drums/percussion on the first provides a heavier sound.
Really a crying shame Caldwell died so early in his career.
Also that this group dissolved.

I have a collection of live recordings from various venues of much of the 2, but the machines used to record in the audience don't afford a listenable product.
Would love to find that 3rd.

The asterisk (*) at the end of those lines means to repeat that verse wherever it appears.
Sometimes there are two ** to make a distinction from one verse or chorus.

I said Hornsby was a guest musician on Starglow Energy in the last sentence of first post. :)
Listened to the entire album last night without interruption unlike the night before where I swapped players and cables a half dozen times.
Really enjoyable.
Then put on a Marillion audience recording from Paris this past October that I burned.
Quality of audience vs studio recording has vastly improved in 25 years.
