All of my half-speed masters. They sound ten times better than a standard mastering.

like the name implies it means everything is done at half speed. Original master tape is played back at half speed and so is the cutting lathe. Claims include greater headroom from the amps driving the cutter, and a more accurate "carving" of the groove by the cutting stylus (it has twice the time to do so).

Yes, they were first introduced by such firms as Sheffield Labs & Telarc in the late 1970s. MFSL or Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs pretty much made their reputation on them. Nautilus was another label devoted to half-mastering.

Even CBS/Columbia and RCA had some special releases done in half-mastering.

I do believe these discs provide exceptional fidelity, way beyond a regular pressing. I particularly prefer the MFSL and Nautilus ones.

Slowly unboxing long stored LPs and I 've run across these these prized albums so far:
Dave Mason --- Alone Together (mudpie)
Nazz --- Nazz (red vinyl, mono, Todd Rudgren's first band)
King Crimson --- Dr. D (live bootleg recorded in Atlanta 6/23/73 with unreleased track Dr. D)
The Don Pullen/George Adams Quartet --- Breakthrough (direct metal mastering, digitally remastered, audiophile edition, premium quality vinyl--bougth it unopened for $6 years ago and it's the best sounding record I have.

Still looking for that laser etched Split Enz record. . .

red vinyl signifies red dye added to the naturally clear vinyl. that's about it. however, i am a sucker for colored vinyl, and will buy it whenever i see it.

Actually, it was a gift many years ago, and I'm not sure where the giver got it. I'm not familiar with circlesky records but perhaps I should be. WUXTRY has lots of interesting LPs (North Decatur and Clairmont)

I have a pristine copy of the Rolling Stones Satanic Majesties Request in Stereo with the hologram intact. The record is perfect. Been played about a dozen times. My Mono copy is totally trashed.
I aso have an unopened copy, still with the clear plastic wrap and green Record World sticker($2.49) of Sgt. Peppers.
