Music Direct, Red Trumpet, Classic 45's all sell vinyl. As far as I know it never went away. Even though production slowed down to a crawl here in the U.S., there were still plants pressing away in Europe and Japan. There was at least two plants in operation here in the U.S. pressing 45's and some vinyl for EMI, BMG and Universal. Still lot's of radio stations and juke boxes out there spinning vinyl.

Vinyl never really died. It became the realm of dedicated music lovers and audio buffs instead of directed at the masses. Records (with their mandatory maintenance chores) were never really intended for the average joe. For a while they were because nothing else was available.

The masses value practicality, ease of use and portability not audio quality. Witness the popularity of the I-pod and similar devices...

Vinyl isn't dead, it is just like Michael Jackson: shy and misunderstood. Without the Jesus-Juice though.

Think someone posted that last year vinyl sale increased their market share against Cee Dees for the first time.

Hi

i get 15-30% of all new pressed productions as ceedee OR as vinyl. Right at time, the last 3-5 yrs i can see record stores OPEN, not close down.
anyway dj'ing based on vinyl, all technotrax on market are pressed in vinyl (even i hate this music) all the years. I guess Market was reduced closed to Zero because of the tactic of the industry to make buyers believe that ceedee is to be bought and vinyl is dead. but the trend is already since mid/end 90s that vinyl is way back. Especially hiend prodiuctions always are produced in both ways. only lack - the f***ing price of the new vinyl.
30$ a record is ~ normal.... i hate this.

They just charge $40-50 for them, that's all and they usually come on clear colored plastic.

So, as a resume, Vinyl records can be called undead....

While some Audiofool LPS are expensive the majority of Reissues I have found have been in the 7-20.00 range withe average being about 10.00. Not what I would call huge money when a stupid Ceedee cost 18.00 and sounds like doggy poo :)

Not what I would call huge money when a stupid Ceedee cost 18.00 and sounds like doggy poo There are a lot of OJC titles for $10. The heavy vinyl is usually priced around $30 and the 45 RPM albums cost around $50. Acoustic Sounds will allow you to sort by price and that is the easiest way to pick up a bargain on new vinyl.

I have yet to pay that much for a CD. The majority of CDs can be found on yourmusic.com for 5.99 without any shipping or handling costs. I will save the debate of vinyl vs CD for one of the many threads on the subject! :D
