So I have a Marantz 2245 in my house as of today, and I plugged in the lineout of the ipod and I was shocked to hear the clarity and frequency range it delivered... everything I played sounded incredible and I didn't even expect a decent sound out of it very pleasant and surprising!

I agree. My iPod sounds ok. I got rid of my cheap computer speakers and put in an iDock from Monitor Audio. It's unique in that it extracts the digital stream from the iPod instead of the analog signal. Through its much better DACs, I get really great sound for such a little tiny system. Highly recommended.

As long as I extract songs at their highest possible quality (320 from my CD's) the sound is really good. Sometimes on tunes I extract from other sources which are around 128, the sound suffers a little bit.

I use 320kbs also but recently have gone to the complete lossless. It uses up alot of storage but if I am just making a playlist for fun it is great. Santa is supposed to bring me an Airport Express for christmas and then I can plug it in behind either of my systems and use its digital out into my Harmon Kardon receiver or into my HHB burners dac's to feed my Mcintosh system. It will make good use of the wireless network I rarely use. I know some turn there nose up but my ipod purchase was money well spent considering how much I am on the go! Cheers.........
