Remakes of songs can either fail spectacularly or recast a familiar tune in a new way. Here is a short list of remakes that I like at least as well as the originals songs, just to prime the pump:

Daddy Rollin' Stone --- Streetwalkers (Rober Chapman sings the daylights out of this Otis Blackwell song)

"Hey Baby" by Bruce Chanel, covered by Ringo, on "Ringo's Rotogravure". This was the national anthem of the preps-the khaki, penny-loafer & Oxford cloth button-down crowd-when I was in college. For them, 1962-66 never ended.-Sandy G.

John Cale's cover of Heartbreak Hotel is among the best Elvis covers of all time - if ya ask me!

I think Cheap Trick's cover of Don't Be Cruel is pretty good.

Aerosmiths cover of Yardbirds "Train kept-A-Rollin'" is fabulous! The tune just rocks. I love it.

Also, Thelma Houstons' version of "I Got The Music In Me".....MUCH better than KiKi dee bands original.

Pablo Picaso (Can't remember the name of the band that did it, but it was on the Repo Man soundtrack)

His cover of The Pixie's "Cactus" is a fantastic song!

All old one, but worth checking out. The Band's remake of The Great Pretender, on their Moondog Matinee album from 1973. Richard Manuel's vocal is terrific.

Also, anyone who appreciates great singing should listen to almost anything by The Persuasions. Probably the greatest a capella group. They do their own versions of classic rock, pop, and gospel songs. No instruments except the human voice. The album Chirpin' is a good introduction. I think they're spectacular.

The Grateful Dead's live version of Kris Kristofferson's "Me and Bobby McGee" is outstanding. Check it out.
