View Full Version : Spreading The Christmas Cheer
JDaniel 11-21-2005, 12:17 AM Well, it's that time again. No, not Thanksgiving. Time for JD's Christmas Compilation. I think I'm finally done with selecting the tracks, but am still working on the sequencing. This will be going out in the mail to some of you already. If anyone here wants one, just reply to this thread or send me a PM. I'll gladly send you one out, gratis. My way of saying Merry AK Christmas.
This year's comp has a decidedly bluesy, gospel feel to it:

Go Tell It On The Mountain - BBOA, Tom Waits
Silent Night - Charlie Musselwhite [instrumental]
In the Bleak Mid-Winter - BBOA, Chrissie Hynde, Richard Thompson

Picture of Jesus - Ben Harper and the BBOA
Born In Bethlehem - BBOA, Mavis Staples
I Pray On Christmas - BBOA, Solomon Burke
Greensleeved - Jethro Tull [instrumental]
A Christmas Song - Jethro Tull
The Christmas Song - BBOA, Shelby Lynne
Away In A Manger - BBOA, George Clinton, Robert Randolph

Ring Out Solstice Bells - Jethro Tull

hifitommy 11-26-2005, 03:23 PM i try to collect as much xmas jazz as i can. this results in playing this music at other times of the year, when i acquire them. my daughters whine around about it, its not that time of year-they groan!
i tire quickly of the usual stuff, although its good to hear nat or leroy anderson, i also like hearing a better variety. one interesting one is 'crescent city christmas card' form wynton marsalis. he narrates the night before xmas. nice change.
i now have scads of them so i can make myself happy. another different one i have is a remix from the art of noise doing music from tim allens movie-the santa clause.

That sir, would be from the excellent Jethro Tull Christmas Album. I thought I put a liner note with the source albums inside the cd case. I apologize if I left yours out Brian.
Seriously, the Tull album is excellent. One could listen to it year round, not just at Christmas. It has a "Songs From The Wood" feel to it.
