Last night, we made the cranberry sauce, apple, pumpkin & sweet potato pies. This morning we left the apartment at 5:30am to go to the Macy's Parade here in NYC. We got a great spot between 64th & 65th streets right up against the police barrier and saw everything except for the accident that happened at Times Square, some 20 blocks away. Our exit strategy worked like a charm, and we were home by 1pm. Our 18lb bird had pierced apples crammed up its tuchis, was trussed, sprinkled with finely ground sage, rosemary & thyme and then heavily sprinkled with hungarian paprika. As I type this, the green beans almondine is steaming, stuffing is almost ready to fluff, pies are about to get warmed up, and the rolls are baking.
Happy Thanksgiving to all, and may your turkeys all be moist and your belts loose!

late post-script: The turkey was the best I've made yet, and thanks to my Gustav Emil Ern full-carbon steel, full tang thin & flexible but non-serrated carving knife, carved up like a dream with everything from whisper-thin slices to good honest slabs!
