hi!

i'd like to find out your comments and recommendation about the Shure V15V-MR (not V15Vx-MR)...i'm being sold one at US$60 only, used for about 20-hours, pristine condition...i know there's a stereophile review of this before but can't locate it anymore...are they the same (or maybe almost the same) in performance with the VX-MR?? i got word that they have the same construction, etc...only difference is the color of the cart's body...i'm using grado green cart right now for my goldring gr1 TT (with rega 250 tonearm)...will this be a "dramatic" upgrade...thanks so much for the help!

someone from audio asylum answered me this:

No, there is more difference than the color. The V15VxMR uses a berylium cantilever vs aluminum or boron (never can remember which) in the earlier V15VMR. The styli are not interchangeable (the VxMR is too large to fit the VMR body). The sound is similar, but not identical.
Yes, it's a major sonic upgrade from the Grado Green.

Styli for both versions are still available. By the way both version used berrylium cantilevers.

is this true (re: the difference)??

thank you very much for the help and recommendation!

Can't comment on the details of the differences, but if you don't want it for $60, please sell it to me!! As, stated, it will be a huge step up from your Grado.

I had a V-MR years ago, and yes that guy is wrong. As you stated, both have a beryllium cantilever . I loved it. I recently bought another one. The first one was really outstanding. The second one I havent tried yet.

That price is IMHO a steal. Price a new stylus for it online and see what you think. It's over twice that much for the stylus.

The VxMR I havent heard, so cant tell you anything for sure about that. I've heard the sound is a little different. One possible big advantage is that since it was discontinued more recently, the replacement stylus will probably be around longer.
