Are there any AKers in the LA area willing to help me out in the picking up and shipping of this turntable (http://cgi.ebay.com/SONY-PS-P7X-STEREO-TURNTABLE-SYSTEM-VINYL-RECORD-PLAYER_W0QQitemZ5835620601QQcategoryZ3283QQrdZ1QQc mdZViewItem)? I'd love to snag it, being a fan of vintage Sony TTs (if only for the oddball factor), but I know destruction is assured if a PowerSeller tries to ship a table. So, if anyone is willing to help out in picking this up in West LA and packing it properly and shipping it up this way (costs reimbursed, of course) it would be appreciated.
Thanks,
- JP

JP, I may be able to do it but wouldn't be able to get there during the week. It's a good 45 minute drive from me so if someone is closer, I would defer to them.
That store is in a very high rent district, Westwood village. It has a concentration of first run movie theaters that are frequently used for movie premieres. It's also just a few blocks from the main gate of UCLA. I like to go there when there is a good movie that needs to be seen in a first class theater. I'll have to look and see what's playing around the time your auction closes.

Hmmm... well, here are the facts: I go to West LA for two days every other week. That store is about 10 blocks from our office. I could certainly pick it up, but after that, you'd be relying on my non-audiophile staff to get it packed. I wouldn't do that with my own stuff!
If you're willing to fund me taking it to some professional packer-shipper (which you'd pick), I'd be happy to help!

Thanks both for the offers of assistance. Phil H beat you both to the punch and has offered to help out. Now, it's up to me to win and up to others to not bother bidding on an odd table of uncertain quality.

NT, so, you only work two days out of every two weeks? No wonder you've invested in such a good system, you've the time to enjoy it.

JP-
How I wish that all that was true! The truth is that I've also invested in a decent system for my main office, where I seem to live.

I figured as much. Just the way you wrote that bit made it seem that you hardly work vs. working hard. So, I figured I'd joke about it slightly.
What do you have as your office system, or is the setup in your profile your office system?

Heh... that huge pile of boxes wouldn't fit in my office!
The office system is small, an Arcam Solo and Polk LSi9 speakers. Good quality, but it doesn't turn business meetings into "What on earth is that?" sessions. Bad enough my wife wonders about me without my partners too!
I'm looking to replace the Polks with something better, but can't bring myself to go for a pair of JM Lab Utopia Be L&Rs, which sound great. Pricing is nutty.

Dang, I was hoping to see a picture of such high density of high-quality audio.

Mmm, good taste. Of all my visits to the high-end audio dealers on Audio Row in Seattle, only one pair of speakers stands out as actually making me want to own them, those very same JM Labs. I had just come from listening to a nearly half a million dollar Wilson setup at Definitive Audio and stopped in a little audio shop a block down. No pretentiousness, just a simple room that was actually treated with those JM Labs playing some Belafonte and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Best sound I've heard in an audio shop.

Heh... I'll have to take a pic of the main system where it is now. We're living in temporary quarters while a remodel goes on, so the Pipedreams are stuffed into a room that's barely as tall as they are, and only about 10 ft apart. No worries about the nearfield effect not controlling, as they're right on top of me, about 10 ft away.
If I can ever get the camera out of my wife's hands, I'll send you a shot of the world's most overcrowded listening room.

Now that sounds like it'd be an impressive sight. I tried to find a picture of your Pipedreams a while back, but there's surprisingly few on the net. Is it because the owners are too busy enjoying the music to take photos?
Heh, I've successfully hijacked my own thread.http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c301/jpvanson/Misc%20Audio/spdr.gif

I think it's because they didn't sell very many. They're too large, too complex (require bi-amping), way, way too heavy (400lb each) and too overpriced. In fact, the company has a new model out that's smaller, lighter, more reasonably priced, and it's supposed to sound better, too. Just my luck, eh?

Dang, NT, you just cited every major trait that makes me desire a speaker. (Well, 6 out of 8, you didn't hit the last two -- "ugly" and "imposing".) Now I really want to see some pictures.
