I need learned advice on a good cheap DAC

I need advice from someone with first hand knowledge on what may be a good DAC to purchase. I'm looking for a used unit with preferably a black face. I'd like my best bang for the buck. I'll be using this DAC with an older Pioneer Elite PD-54 player if that makes any difference.

I understand the word "good", but what exactly do you mean by "cheap"?
