I don't know how much changed with the 1500 but I've got a 1400 and like it quite a bit. Since I rediscovered vintage with my Sony VFET amp the Yamaha is no longer my main music system, but it did do double duty for a while and still gets used regularly for FM, phono, and CD/SACD/DVD-A in addition to it's primary HT use. Like most modern HT receivers it can be a little on the analytical side but not as much so as a lot of the others I listened to. It was one of the few with a phono preamp (not great but decent), and you can run Direct mode on the analog inputs to bypass the ADC/DSP/DAC if you want. Overall I thought it had the best feature set and the best sound in the price range.
