How much do these go for? I can get a set for $85.00. Is this a good deal or not. Good Condition.

If you don't get them at that price, I will haunt you forever. If I had the money, I would pay 4-5 times that. But again, that's just me.

Homer---Sort of an Altec AR-3A, a long-stroking woofered low efficiency box speaker with cone midrange and tweeter, not exactly the kind of thing that sends Altec fans into a swoon. Decent speaker but nothing special. Not nearly as good as such small Altecs as the Bolero or Model 15. My opinion ya understand.

The cabinets are very nice though, I'd pay $85 for the cabinets if in nice shape, then junk the drivers and use 12" Altec or Radian coaxial drivers in them. Or maybe University or EV coaxes. In any event the boxes themselves have possibilities.

Got these today. They have replacement tweets, that don't fit right, but they sound GREAT. They have 2 diff woffers, but both sound Great, would sound better if the tweeters fit properly. I'll post some pics tomorow. These speakers ROCK.

While getting these, I also picked up a mint set of Minimus 7 (black) and a mint Pioneer RG-1 with owners manual for $10.00 each. I feel I got a pretty good deal.

:worried: Hmm... Mis-matched woofers... Replaced tweeters.... I would track down a pair of original tweeters and woofers if I were you. Kind of like buying a BMW 5 series with a Yugo engine. Just my opinion.

But, if they sound similar enough to one another and (more importantly) sound good to you, that is all that matters. :thmbsp:

Here is a link to Lansing Heritage that has some driver information http://www.lansingheritage.org/images/altec/reference/1975-drivers/page04.jpg
You might want to see what other info they have http://www.lansingheritage.org/html/altec/altec.htm

I don't know much about Altecs but you might also look around here http://alteclansingunofficial.nlenet.net/ and here http://www.greatplainsaudio.com/

Anyone know anything about these tweeters?

Seems that these tweets will be hard to find. I did see a pair on Parts Express, but I want to keep it OEM. Any ideas on where I may be able to find some OEM Altec Lansing parts. The tweeter part # is 427-A (23941) (also used in model 9's). The woofer part # is 33555. Neither seem to be very popular, but I'll keep trying ...!

Homer, I strongly suggest you call Bill at Great Plains Audio. The link below will provide his phone number. If anyone can get you headed in the right direction, it will be Bill.

I also have a pair that need original mids. I'm running a set of HPM mids
until I find a set.

I feel I'm in for a long wait...

Look here for additional info. Both mid and tweets are cones.

I think that the tweeter from a 391 is the same. They can be had cheap. A guy in a Toronto group sold me a pair that he got from GW for $14. I passed them on to my 7 year old nephew who now has the start of a bad habit.

Those tweeters shown in the photos look somewhat like radio shack piezos with the dome rather than the horn. And having looked at the lansingheritage site, its pretty clear that the tweeter from the A range is different from the Stonehenge range, alas...
