What does everyone cook for the three winter holidays, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years? We usually have turkey on Thanksgiving, goose or duck on Christmas, and prime rib on New Years. Not really any family tradition just seems to have evolved that way.

We like ham in our house. We typically have it at Thanksgiving and Christmas. New Year's doen't get much around here. We order Pizza or something. I made garlic mashed potatos last night, and I think that may become a tradition. Damn they were good! Who knew I could cook!

Take care,

Ed

Thanksgiving and Christmas the same.

Turkey, stuffing, mashed carrots, potatoes and turnups, gravy, coleslaw like the kind at KFC with some hot buns and meatpie. Desert is a homemade lemmon pie. Oh yea a bottle of white wine.

Thats it, New Years is the same as Fast_Eddie, Pizza or something.

Most years, the same at Thanksgiving and Christmas: turkey, stuffing, yams, mashed potatoes, cornbread, gravy, a couple of vegetables, couple kinds of pie.

This year, a small experiment - andouille sausage in the stuffing - a new tradition, I think.

My sister does the cookin'-she says we're gonna have Virginia ham, prime rib, yellow rice, another couple vegetables, dessert. Personally, I'd be happy w/a couple o' big-azz Pizzas, but they ain't open today. The Chinese place is...Hmmmmmm....<grin>-Sandy G.

Well, today was broccoli soup, tuscan herbed standing rib roast, herbed carrots and roasted herbed potatoes. The dinner was washed down with a bottle of 1995 Don Melchor Carbernet Sauvignon. For Desert a Ginger cake!!

Thanksgiving at friends: turkey, ham, string bean/onion casserole, yams (not candied or with marshmallow), mashed, ambrosia salad, cranberry sauce, spiced apple rings, peas; pumpkin and apple pie for dessert.

Christmas: A little shrimp cocktail;
monk fish filets, dipped in egg (substitute) mixed with a few drops of Tabasco, rolled in mixture of grated parmesan, grated romano, garlic powder, Mrs. Dash lemon pepper, parsely flakes; fried in butter until golden (still finishing the last of the butter - next time will be margarine). Side: lima beans

New years: don't make anything special, but sure to have some pickled herring on New Year's Eve, in honor of my Norwegian uncle.

Thanksgiving- The usual fair! (turkey, stuffing blah blah blah...)

Christmas- Lasagna (I made sauce yesterday and my girlfriend easily
the rest today. My mom always made me calamari sauce for
christmas and shrimp cocktail was always good.)

As a side note presents are always opened with mamosas! :thmbsp:

Hope everyone had a great holiday! Cheers......

Thanksgiving at my house got a ham this year; I can't seem to roast a turkey worth a darn. Usual result no matter what temp I use is dried out on the outside, half-raw on the inside, and hardly ever tender. I gave up. (So much for my user name, eh? :( )
Christmas got my homemade spaghetti sauce as a special request:D
New Years'? Nothing special yet that I know of.

I love Monkfish! And since I'm moving back to Illinios in two years I'll be waiting for my invitation for a Monkfish feast with plenty of tunes.

Don't stuff your turkey! Get three or four McIntosh apples (depending on the size of your bird), prick them a few times with a fork, stuff them up the turkey's ass, truss the legs together, and tuck the wings under the legs. Sprinkle with ground rosemary, garlic powder and hungarian paprika.
Put it in your roasting pan and pour in a good inch or so of water. Put into a 325 oven for 20 min per lb. and baste with the water from the bottom of the pan every 30 min. or so. You'll never have a dry turkey again if you do this, so help me Pioneer!
PS, if you do 15 lb. turkeys or smaller, get one of them thar Ronco Showtime Rotisseries, they're the cat's ass!
