I shipped a vintage BK Precision nixie tube multimeter and all that got there was an empty box. UPS admits that an employee opened the box and stole it & my claim was approved. This was September 12. I am still waiting for payment.

Since UPS admits that their employee (I hope now an ex employee) stole your property, you should be compensated above the value of the item. Insist that they settle with you within the next 2 weeks. I bet they'll offer you a generious settlement. Good luck.

Hi All, Infact I did try to Shake The Tree, I took all the paperwork to the UPS store where I shipped it and was told that there is NOTHING they can do, "Go back home and call the 800 number" was the helpful advice. What BS. I am going to have to send the buyer a refund out of my pocket, He has been VERY understanding but since september?

I am still being put off by UPS, Even though they say the claim is approved, I checked with the buyer of the Multimeter and he has not received a check either! What a way to run a company, admit that your employee stole the item then do nothing about it and hope I go away. Anybody out there work for UPS? Want to earn my eternal gratitude? HELP!!!

Send a certified letter to the Chairman of UPS demanding immediate restitution within 10 days. Threaten to notify the State Attorney General in your state and UPS HQ's state concerning this matter if a check isn't in your hand within the alotted time. I did this and the result was a phone call apologizing for their "mistake" & check from UPS within 10 days.

One small addition, on the Certified Letter, set up a Return Recipt. Then you know who signed for it. A Return Recipt Certified Letter has always worked for me like a 2 x 4 over some <donkey's > head.... you get their full undivided attention if they are a legitimate business...

All this happened because the rediscovered retro look of nixie tubes has driven up their value, and also their recognition.

Not that it couldn't happen but theft by any UPS employee is consider a violation of what's considered a cardinal sin and automatic dismissal. UPS long-time employees know there's not any item going through the system that's worth your job. UPS however does hire a lot of college age students as part timers who have no long term plans with the company. I do not know who you may have talked to but it certainly would not be company procedure to state an employee stole it. UPS is very strict and makes the others look like kindergarden cops with their own loss prevention people. Always stay on top of any shipper claims, too much time had passed between your contacts. If this had been recent, I would ask you to contact UPS to have them check "overgoods" to see if they can locate the item but it's too late now. Your situation seems more like a "fall-out" claim but certainly anything is possible.

The official letter did not use the word stolen, it stated that somewhere between Jacksonville and New York the package had been cut open and item removed. The clerk at the UPS store did use the word stolen. For the first several months I was calling them and emailing them several times a week. But they just kept making excuses and delays hoping I would get tired and go away, It worked. I only called them about once a month after awhile.
Richard.
ps Thank's to all for your kind thoughts and advice.

I am sorry to hear about your troubles. This however reemphasizes why I will never use UPS for shipping again. There business is set up to stall, avoid and cover for any errors on there part. I will boycott them from now on and would hope that others will consider the same.

I Thank You for your support, however even is all AK members stopped using UPS they would not notice or care. They are a multinational billion dollar company, much like epay.
Regards,
Richard.
