I have recently acquired these TT tools. Can anyone shed some more light on them as to how to use them? Mostly the wood piece w/the mirror and carbon brush on the opposite side. Thanks for the help.

The wood thing is a Discwasher brand stylus cleaning brush. The brush end is to be moistened with your favorite stylus cleaner and used to clean the pointy end of your cartridge. The mirror is a magnifying mirror that you are supposed to be able to hold behind your cartridge to inspect it. Mine never gave a good enough image to really be worthwhile.

The White piece is stylus overhang gauge for technics turntable. I only know of it with 1200's. Long part flat, the tone arm fits into hole. I have instructions for that used with technics 1200 turntable.

Be careful with the stylus brush. Only use in direction from back to tip. I think that a whisp of air would be safer, though.

You can also use the mirror end of the Discwasher tool to check the azimuth setting of your stylus by putting it under the stylus and see if the reflection is exactly even with the stylus.

I've used my Discwasher brush and it's SC-2 cleaning fluid since 1978 and for me, it's the only thing that has ever successfully removed all the crud from my stylus, carefully and long-lasting. A winner! :thmbsp:

PS: the mirror IS useless!

Those diskwasher stylus brushes were good little units. I used one for many years until it was just to dirty to effectively clean my stylus anymore. And as long as they are used properly, they are quite safe, and are far more effective than a blast of air.

I use it dry before and after using the Magic Eraser. Threads regarding this subject on AA convinced me to forgo wet cleaning.
