Any suggestions for replacement speakers for a silvertone Twin 12?

The amp works fine, but the speakers in the cab are mismatched and/or blown.

All you get is a sqwak when you turn it up past 2. This is "not" supposed to be
a high dollar project. Got the amp for free, and would like to keep it cheap. I spent a few dollars getting the amp fixed but balked at the price of new speakers. Any ideas? These are said to be ok sounding amps for those basement gigs. Actually saw a touring band using one but they had reinforced the cab with angle iron to prevent it from falling apart. It sounded alright though.

In 2006 I'm either fixing or selling/giving away all the busted stuff in the storeroom. Thanks for your help!

lucky you, i've been trying to find a twin 12 for ages, some spots to look for speakers: Old console stereos sometimes have 12" jensens that are perfect, as well just buy the oldest cheapest used 4-12 cab you can find and pull two out there, lots of stuff you can do.

I LOOOOOOVE my Twin Twelve 1484.

I highly highly recommend getting a pair of Celestion Vintage 30's and putting them in a 2x12 closed back cab. That amp will bark like no one's business!

BTW, don't relegate it to the basement....I gig with mine all the time. Schematically, it's a knock off of the Fender Twin Reverb. It's a point-to-point wired tube amp, you'd have to pay huuuuge dollars for a new one these days...treat it like the "Boutique Amp" that it is! What you have there is, IMO, the best sounding tube amp there is. Just get a pair of Celestion Vintage 30's and a closed back cab and enjoy.
