Has anyone seen or heard the MC2KW's yet? All I can say is WOW!

Ron, I don't suppose you've has a chance to listen to the 201 just hooked up directly to a 275? I'm wondering how this might compare to a system with a pre-amp in the amplification chain. For simpictiy's sake the 201/275 seems like an elegant solution. But would one be missing something other than being limited to CDs?

Thats funny, I just said the same thing to my dealer today. Since they moved, he has a MC275 with B&W 802's just lacking a great source :)

As far as the MCD201 goes we are scrambling to build more. It sounds great and your PCM/SACD CD collection will come across as a shock. Many users are giving it glowing sonic reports from the field. The MCD201 was designed to run any McIntosh amp directly in a minimalist system. It will work with all amps from 50W2 to MC2KW.

So the MCD201 will sound better than the 861?

Two different things I think. Depends what you are looking for, a universal DVD player or a CD player. The MCD201 will outperform a whole lot of seperate DACs and transports though if two channel is your goal.

Thanks Ron, It's clear from the lit that the 201 will drive McAmps. But my question has more to do with sonic quality of the music if the pre-amp is removed from the equation. Further comments appreciated!

Less can often be more. Just go to your dealer and listen for yourself with your own CDs. That is the best bet then you can decide.
The MCD201 output section is the same as used on a high end preamp.

The MCD201 will be a step up from the MDA700. Preamps, of course have a job to do but not everyone needs one.
