Mayan Sweet Onions are available here a few months a year - damn, these things are good - like Vidalias, only much better. Put a couple in with a pot roast today - yummm

Anyone else familiar with these?

Vidalias, Texas 1015, Mayans, Mauis, the produce market, here, rolls these in, as their respective yields come into season. Take your favourite, slice thin, stack high on pumpernickel, with a little salt and pepper, that sandwich is one of nature's most nearly perfect foods.

You can always combine with Emmenthaler or Gruyere, and a little hot mustard (I like English style, Keens or Coleman's)

Top drawer is your taste? Add some liverwurst.

Toasting the pumpernickel is almost gilding the lily. Almost.

Onions yum, raw, baked, caramelized, you name it! Tonights menu features Greek Stifatho. It's a couple pounds of beef 4 onions, sliced thin, tomato juice, vinegar and spices cooked together until the onions disintegrate into a sauce with the other stuff. Good on noodles or mashed potatoes.

Mmm, Mayan Sweets. I love those onions. They were an accidental discovery for me, I was in the mood for steak and onions and felt like trying some of those as they were on sale. Very good combination and good onions for most anything. Too bad they're so seasonal; shortly afterwards they went out and the Walla Walla Sweets came in, which aren't near so good.
