I'm really surprised how hard it is to find something like this.
I have searched hi and lo for a basic (pre-valhalla) psu for a linn lp12. I've recently aquired many pieces to an old Linn and would like to see if i could return this to it's former glory. does anybody know where i might find one? :scratch2: i've read that the psu is the same or very much like a rega. I'm sure there are many psu's out there but i would like to stay as original as possible to the linn setup. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
i am a relative newbie, please be gentle :D

why not contact a linn dealer in your area? they usually have stock of these old parts as customers upgrade to valhalla or lingo. that's your best bet. if you find nothing in manitoba, you can always try audioclub in montreal, he's been a linn dealer for a very long time.

I've just e-mailed pretty much every dealer in Canada so hopefully i'll hear something back. I figured it would be an easy thing to pick up seeing as how everyone seems to have gone to the valhalla or lingo.
Thanks for the help :thmbsp:

I have a non-valhalla, non lingo LP-12. The original LP-12 had no power supplys. They just had 110v 60Hz AC Synchonous motors, and the associated capacitor that ran right off of the line.
The trick is finding the old 60Hz motors which are basically non-existent following the switch to the Valhalla supply, and the 50Hz motors across the globe.

(basic power supply) maybe i'm using the term in the wrong context?
i think this is what i am looking for  did the upgrade to the valhalla include a new motor, if so how can i tell which motor i have? maybe i'll have to go with the valhalla board. :dunno:

you know you have the wrong motor when you can't get the speed right. when i got the armageddon power supply, the table turned too fast. so i had to get the 60 hz motor! that's how i found out.

Ok, now I think I understand your confusion. The Basic Power supply is the power supply for the Linn Basic turntable, not for the LP-12!
Very early Valhalla upgrades did not include the 50 Hz motor in the upgrade, they just gave you a 60Hz board. But those were very short-lived mods, and were only available for a couple of years.
After that Linn realized that it was unecessary to make two different boards, since they were synthesizing thier own power anyway. So they quickly just standardized on the 50Hz Valhalla supply, which doesn't care if it it getting 50 or 60Hz as its input.
I've been trying to find a 60Hz Valhalla board for years, but they are rare, and very expensive, if you can find one.
But on the plus side, having the 60Hz motor allows one to try an Armageddon Supply, if you like. This is not possible inside the US with the 50Hz Motor. :thmbsp:
