Hi I'm new to the forums and this is my first post. Well I just recently got into vintage audio a few months ago when I bought a dual 1019. I wanted to hear what vinyl really sounded like and I was impressed. So of course now I've got to have a vintage receiver to go with it. I've decided on the Marantz 2270 b/c I've heard a lot of good stuff about marantz and 70 watts is enough to fill my bedroom with nice sounds and then some. Anyway I was just wondering what 2270 models I should be looking for. Supposively they were made in the us in their infancy and then production moved to japan and I've heard the american made ones have a superior sound. So my question is what is the range of serial numbers I should be looking for? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Well I may have the history wrong but I seem to recall from a posting of a former Marantz employee that when they moved to California, that they had two manufactoring lines going, a A line and a B line. The A line were being built in california from the units that they had been making before they moved from N.Y. The B line, which included all the 22XX models, were being built in Japan for them by I think he said Standard Radio. Maybe someone else here will verify that or correct it.

Thanks a lot guys for responding. Tone deaf I've been to that site a few times and I still can't seem to find any serial info. I see that it says it was made in america and then later in Japan. Lefty if that's the case then it's going to be real hard to tell which are american and which japanese unless it's included in the serial with a letter or something. Oh well maybe they don't sound that different either way if anyone's got any more to add feel free.

I would avoid the 2270 and look instead at the 2275 or 2265/2265B--or better yet the very sweet 2285B.
The 2270 was pretty weak-kneed in the power supply and low impedance loads burned up more than a few of them.
