This just came from Netflix today. Still working my way through it, but more surfing with Duvall, and more Playboy bunnies! Oh yes, the Bunnies.......... On the downside, I suppose there will be more Brando................

The last time I caught it on TV, there was an entire scene with the bunnies that I had never seen before. Their chopper appeared to have spun in at a forward Special Forces camp, and some of the guys on the boat almost got lucky. Almost.

Not that much more Brando, but I had never seen the whole exotic scene (15 minutes or more?) with the French plantation owners, and Sheen and his boat crew until Redux. Still an amazing movie. Dennis Hopper's character just cracks me up -- don't think it was much of a stretch.

I thought it was interesting- outtakes invariably are. But I prefer the original.

I did like the French plantation scene. Other than that I am glad most of the stuff was cut. Duval having his board stolen make Col Kilgore less of a larger-than-life character. I might have kept that scene with Brando reading to Sheen. Gave us a bit more sense of who he was. The additional bunny scene punctured the effect of them dancing with all the phallic missles around.

There was this guy in college who was fascianted by the movie. So much so that he read and reread Heart of Darkness so as to understand it better. He would point out how much the film mirrored the book right down to the boat swerving in the same direction while they are under attack.
