I picked one of these digital sound field processors up today. It has no manaual. I think I've got it pretty much figured out. Does anyone know if I can get one online or can give me any help with the features of the unit.

You're welcome.

If you don't need the latest super duper 5.1/6.1/7.1 ad nauseum processing modes the old Yammie is still a good unit.

Very versatile (I wish my Sony preamp had a separate record path !) and pretty good sounding.

Best used as a preamp, or at least with a separate amp for the main L&R channels, the onboard amps really weren't very good.

And be aware that all the analog audio inputs are converted to digital. Just in case you plug in your SACD/DVD-A etc. and wonder why it sounds a bit funky...

Not only are they not very good, but they don't even exist as far as I know. In other words, the DSP-1 does not have any internal amps to drive your speakers.

It has quite a lot of DSP modes to keep you busy and make you feel that the latest 5.1 isn't required. When used with the front surrounds and properly matched speakers from Yamaha, Misson, Paradigm, Canton, Camber and Magnepan the built in amp sounds pretty good.

I have the latest version namely DSP-AZ1 and can tell you that most of the time I hardly use the 6.1 Pro Logic II with rear center speakers.

It is a very good buy new or used.

If you have trouble getting the manual on line, let me know - I have one of these somewhere, and I could copy the manual for you if needed.

I just might have an extra remote for the unit, I own a DSP1 myself and I think I have an extra. E-mail me in a couple of days and we'll see if we can get it together.

Have both this and the follow-on DSP-100. Like you, I need the remote and manual for the DSP-1. Especially the manual.

Expensive suckers in their day. Guess it was the development costs for the best-of-the-best, at the time. $1000 for the DSP-1 in '86 and $700 for the DSP-100 in '89. Think I paid $15 for mine. People just about give them away today.

Here is a poor photo of the DSP-1 (bottom) and DSP-100U (top). Took without the flash to show the lights. Will give them both a try sometime over the winter with the NS-1000s as the front speakers and the NS-500s as the rear. Probably start with the DSP-100U as have the remote and manual for it.

Which Yammie processor was the first Dolby Digital Decoder? You know, the one with the built-in LD RF de-modulator built in.

No, not the same model as Marvin the Martian's PK432 modulator raygun. :scratch2:

what does the DSP-100U do? what's the difference between it and the DSP1Same thing. Just the next model in the line, temporally. Has 12 presets and 33 environments.
